A Woman For Freedom - Margaret Thatcher

Margaret Thatcher became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom forty-four years ago today on May 4, 1979.

She fully understood how freedom is at the core of the many factors we must consider in protecting national strength. Her words prove it:

"I love argument. I love debate. "

“……… no government can do anything except through people, and people must look after themselves first. It is our duty to look after ourselves and then, also, to look after our neighbours.”

” …….. we must build a society in which we encourage rather than restrict the variety and richness of human nature.”

” ……… there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.”

” The signposts of socialism point downhill to less freedom, less prosperity, downhill to more muddle, more failure.”

And, perhaps most importantly, the prayerful words she brought to Number 10 Downing Street and spoke there, on the doorstep, on May 4, 1979:

"Where there is discord, may we bring harmony; Where there is error, may we bring truth; Where there is doubt, may we bring faith; And where there is despair, may we bring hope."

God Bless Margaret Thatcher

Thatcher the chemist who gave us the intoxicating drug of personal strength.

And The Gipper.

A mostly b-grade movie actor.

But a very A-grade President.

The best since Teddy Roosevelt?

Or Ike?

Or POTUS 45?

A Thatcher would be good.

But we have a Gabbard, a Hayley, a Lake, an Ingraham and a Meg Kelly .......

God hasn’t forgotten us ........

Biden? He forgets everything. Except Kamala cackling in the background?

God love that woman.

I have always thought that there IS no “economic” and “social” conservatism. As if they were separable. They are not. She is right. Cannot have one without the other. Impossible.

There is a debate to be had here.

I remember Nixon saying in the late sixties that he was a liberal socially but a conservative economically. Perhaps that was just a capture the middle ground statement and not his real belief.

Lots of people say that, which is why she retorted it.

There is no way to say you are all for being free-enterprise, and yet force people to associate one way or not. Which is what is done to business being forced to accept all customers, e.g. how can you state someone can associate with whom they wish personally, but must accept all associations in business?

This is just one of many conundrums trying to square one and the other.
