Yeah
Exactly like Nordstream
No possible motive
Very strange war.
Imagine London in 1940: bombers fly over the city and rain down destruction. Some blame the German Luftwaffe. Hitler denies this and says that the RAF is bombing London. There’s just no way to tell.
Did Russia blow up it’s pipeline? Or was it Ukraine? Did Russia blow up this damn? Or was it Ukraine?
If you can’t tell which side is blowing stuff up, then you’re watching a pretty odd war. In past wars, it’s been pretty obvious who is doing what to whom.
The Ukrainians damaged it with himars a while ago and the recent surge in water flow (snow melt) pushed the dam to its brink. That’s why there’s no video of explosions or charred buildings.
Can’t be an accident. There is destruction all down the length of the facility, including the hydro power side. The channel there has been blasted too, and water is flowing through. There wasn’t just one demolition.
There are lots of videos, check them out.
The Kremlin braintrust has now lost the blackmail value of the dam and all they have left is the 6 unit Zaporozhye NPS.
Border wars can last for quite some time. Russia should have stopped with Crimea. But she didn’t and hundreds of thousands will die.
i agree with you
Tanks can’t cross mud that deep. Seems like a scorched earth plan to me.
It’s certainly a possibility. There were lots of news articles over the past six months speculating such a catastrophe could result from the October damage to the dam, especially over time. Just a week ago, high water from snow melt and spring rains in the reservoir overtopped the dam (was spilling over the top). We just don’t know anything for sure at this point.
That said, for once I agree with MacGregor. Blowing up the dam was a stupid idea. Causing the Zaporizhia power plant problems is disastrous for both sides.
Yes, they hit the bridges last fall, but that didn’t quite do the trick. Then the Ukrainians considered blowing the dam as a last resort, but settled for only damaging it enough to hamper Russian crossings:
“The two bridges were targeted with U.S.-supplied M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems — or HIMARS launchers, which have a range of 50 miles — and were quickly rendered impassable.
“There were moments when we turned off their supply lines completely, and they still managed to build crossings,” Kovalchuk said. “They managed to replenish ammunition. … It was very difficult.”
Kovalchuk considered flooding the river. The Ukrainians, he said, even conducted a test strike with a HIMARS launcher on one of the floodgates at the Nova Kakhovka dam, making three holes in the metal to see if the Dnieper’s water could be raised enough to stymie Russian crossings but not flood nearby villages.
The test was a success, Kovalchuk said, but the step remained a last resort. He held off.”
Furthermore, the Ukrainian-controlled dam upstream has been opened completely to flood the Russian controlled dam.
If Macgregor says Russia is most likely NOT the culprit, you can be fairly certain Russia IS the culprit.
You’re only saying that because you are an idiot...
