Counteroffensive update 17th June evening: The massacre near Orekhovo - even experienced officers have never seen something like this.
The AFU went on the offensive in large numbers today. Ukrainian infantry moved forward with the support of NATO tanks and armored vehicles. After a heavy and long battle, within a day, this Ukrainian assault battalion was completely destroyed.
What happened today near Orekhovo was a Slaughter!!!
One gets the impression that NATO members gave Kiev a very "hard deadline". Time is limited, since the NATO summit is on July 11-12th.
Only one problem the Russian army is strong, but this should have not been an obstacle to the plans of Washington and London.
Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow there will be many new videos of damaged equipment. There is a lot of it - dozens of units.
But the worst thing is not even that. The worst thing is the loss of personnel. The AFU was not even able evacuate the wounded from there.
Experienced Russian officers are shocked by what they saw today. They have never seen such a massacre (according to them), and such a disregard for the life of soldiers, Ukrainian soldiers.

“Reports” coming from Russian bloggers who are trying to create a cassus belli for Russia to invade Romania and Moldavia. The reality: Russia lost a battle. Casualties were heavy on both sides. Russian bloggers are trying to spin it into a Russian victory.

Maybe, maybe not. Is bad news for Ukraine always ‘Russian propaganda?’ Is bad news for Russia always ‘Ukrainian propaganda?’ I know this offensive is going poorly for Ukraine for one reason, no established news organizations are reporting on it.

Nearly all of them were draftees, abducted from the streets. Horrifying to waste their lives for such stupidity.
I remember reading a book about a refugee from Poland who wound up deep inside Russia after Germany attacked in 1941.
He said the Russian Pravda never mentioned any defeats or anything negative of that nature and it was hard to get accurate information but he would read between the lines—when the news would report that “3 soldiers were awarded bravery medals by Stalin during the battle for the defense of Smolensk”
He was then able to figure out how far and fast the Germans were advancing into Russia. He realized Russia was being pushed back hard.

Sort of false - Ukraine is releasing only limited information while the Orcs are making up stuff left and right.
Plus, any reporters on or near the front run a very high risk of being killed or wounded - as some have already learned the hard way.

After 2 weeks of the hyped up offensive, Ukraine has captured a few small villages in southern Ukraine and a little more open land around the flanks of bakhmut

Meanwhile Russia is still slowly advancing in a few areas
I recall media articles about in the spring how the first 72 hours of the offensive would be critical
Now suddenly the western media tone has changed to “ long and costly”

You need to follow non official government telegram and podcasts of both Russian and Ukrainian sources.
Most of it is open sourced intel along with videos and geolocations
The Ukrainian government is being hush because it’s not going well
Pretty sure both sides are doing that.
It appears to be a Slav thing.
The higher the stakes the bigger the fabricated lies.
