It takes gall to go after a North Korean defector, and on the front page of the New York Times, no less. The paper’s staff writer Charles Homans’ odd choice of target appeared in the Friday edition under the rather tasteless headline, “Yeonmi Park, a North Korean Dissident, Defects to the American Right.”
Although the Times has in the past been notably soft on North Korea’s Communist dictatorship, one could hardly imagine the paper straining so hard to cast doubt on a defector who suffered greatly under the regime, just for the crime of supporting conservative policy and comparing the American left to the dictatorship she escaped.
''The first thing my mom taught me as a young girl living in North Korea was don't even whisper, because birds and mice could hear me,'' Yeonmi Park told the audience that had come to hear her speak in Queens.
''This is what dictators do: they plant a spike everywhere, a distrust between people, a distrust between family, even. The teachers tell their children,'' she went on, '''If your parents say one wrong thing, come to tell the teacher.'''
It was a story that Ms. Park has told often, on television sets and conference stages and in a best-selling memoir, over the decade she has spent as one of the world's most famous defectors from the Kim family's isolated totalitarian state.
But in recent years, she has added a new postscript.

The NY Times is the enemy.
Well, the left seems to largely consist of queers, pedophiles, and globalist totalitarians, so why would anyone defect to them? They are sniveling children who don’t want to grow up. I will not tolerate one for a minute. I do not have a problem ending a conversation and walking away. It is beyond foolish to try to convince a fool of things they refuse to hear.
Yeonmi Park “defected to the Right”, because defecting to the Leftards is the equivalent of staying in North Korea.

Escape the totalitarian government of N Korea and found out the US Democratic Party’s government would be a clone of them so why wouldn’t he back the Republicans?
Could it be that the New York Times is a communist organization that is protecting its own?
If the criticism of the left has some basis in fact, should not a responsible newspaper present both sides and let the reader decide?
It is unAmerican to blindly attack a survivor of communism.
Ms. Park's transformation from celebrity defector to loud critic of liberal identity politics is extraordinarily rare. Very few of the tens of thousands of people who have fled North Korea wade into domestic politics in the countries where they have taken refuge.
Perhaps that's because most of the people escaping from North Korea stop in China where they can eat rice instead of tree bark? China is slightly more intolerant of foreigners criticizing its politics than the US... but only slightly.
The left hates actual women.
Why wouldn’t the New York Times squeal about her pointing out it walks
hand in hand with the North Korean/like politicians in the US?
She posts on a You Tube channel callled Dimple.
Two young North Korean guys who were Nork soldiers also post on this site along with an older North Korean woman whose name escapes me. Her story is very compelling.
She was also in the Nork military and she lives here in the US. She once gave a speech to some college kids who listened to her with rapt attention and at the end gave her a standing ovation and lined up to hug her.
The woman couldn't stop crying at the outpouring of love and admiration of these ‘’beautiful American children’’.
