Decriminalization of currently illegal drugs is a controversial but mainstream position.
Almost 40 years ago I was given an employment lie-detector test by a famous investment bank, and I was asked “Do you use any illegal drug except for marijuana?” I answered honestly that I used nothing including marijuana, and passed the test. Afterwards I reflected that some of the partners of that famous bank were probably recreational pot smokers.
And by the way, can you cite the language in the US constitution that gives the federal government the power to prohibit drugs?
I can’t find that language, and since it took a constitutional amendment to ban alcohol, I think it doesn’t exist.
I think that like abortion, prohibiting or allowing drugs is a matter for the states to decide. I think that people are wise not to use them, but shouldn’t be jailed for being unwise.
