Yep. Him and Bowie......been wearing make-up for Decades.
I saw it coming in the 80s. MTV helped by showing many music videos promoting effeminate males (many european) wearing heavy makeup, women’s hair styles and clothing.
Bowie wore women’s clothes as much as men’s.

Yet they were actually just people and friends.
Sometimes it is hard for people to separate a person from the persona they create for their act.

Actually Alice wore women’s s clothes in the beginning because they had no stage clothes of their own.
Couldn’t afford them.
A 60s girl band they were friends with gave them clothes to wear.
Strange but true.
