What makes detonation cord (detcord) so popular in demolition work is that it is relatively lightweight and stable to transport, comes in a flexible rope form, and in different diameters and explosive strengths. It can be wrapped around almost anything. It also is used as a fast-acting fuse to connect and detonate other forms of higher-energy explosives and shape charges. It is a favorite quick tree-cutting method to open LZs for choppers in heavily wooded terrain. You can unspool the cord quickly, wrap it several times around a number of trees, and use the cord as a fuse to connect all the trees together and cut them down all at once. When I was in training my demolition instructor and I downed a water tower at the Basic School, MCB Quantico that was beyond its useful life. That goes back many years (’69) now.
Thank—you for the explanation. Knowledge of detcord is probably not widely known.
