The Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy Shandong Carrier Strike Group is operating in the Philippine Sea, being shadowed separately by Republic of China Navy and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) destroyers, according to both countries.

Meanwhile, North Korea fired two ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan on Wednesday – shortly before its leader, Kim Jong Un, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Russia – marking the first time North Korea has conducted such a launch while its leader was overseas. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense in a Wednesday social media post stated that a total of 35 PLA aircraft had been detected – 28 of which crossed the median line between China and Taiwan, entering Taiwan’s southwest air defence identification zone. Taiwan also reported that PLAN aircraft carrier Shandong had sailed into the western Pacific. A follow up post stated that the ROC Armed Forces were monitoring the situation and had tasked combat air patrol aircraft, navy vessels and land-based missile systems to respond, and included a picture of destroyer ROCS Kee Lung (DDG-1801) (former Kidd-class destroyer USS Scott [DDG-995]) shadowing the carrier.

Japan’s Joint Staff Office of the Ministry of Defense issued a release stating that at 8 a.m. Wednesday, the Shandong CSG was 403 miles south of Miyako Island, with a map showing the CSG closer to Luzon in the Philippines than to Japan or Taiwan. The CSG consisted of six ships: carrier CNS Shandong (17), destroyers CNS Guilin (164) and CNS Changsha (173), frigates CNS Xianning (500) and CNS Xuchang (536) and fleet oiler CNS Chaganhu (905). The carrier conducted launches and recovery of both fighter aircraft and helicopters, according to the release, which also stated that destroyer JS Ariake (DD-109) was shadowing the CSG.

400 miles south of Miyako island is open waters of the Pacific, more than 100 miles from the Philippines.

90% of the Chinese ships cannot travel 1000 miles from a friendly port. They are a Maritime Dependent Nation with a Brown Water Navy.

Where did you get that from?

Naval wars are won in steelmills, shipyards and drydocks and they out number us in that department 20:1.

They7 will not fight by shipping over an army by boat across the ocean.

They will first infiltrate the country by sending thousand (or millions) of military-age men across our borders. Until they have a standing army in place.

And they will get the USA to pay for it, and support them.

I just finished a chapter in Robert D. Kaplan’s’ “Imperial Grunts the American military on the ground.” Special forces were doing a low-key good job in the P.I. winning hearts and minds in the war against muslims. The P.I. military is corrupt with the NCO class being very pathetic. The other motivation is setting up a HQ for a potential war with the Chicoms. Kaplan’s books are excellent.

When it came to Ferdinand Marcos the quote as “At least you knew who to bribe.” It was stable.

PLAN builds ships no faster then we do. Three to four years for a destroyer. This isn’t wwii, you go to war with what you have and we still vastly outnumber them in tonnage and capabilities.

We’ll take a big first punch from their missile barrage but it’ll be downhill from there.

“ 400 miles south of Miyako island is open waters of the Pacific, more than 100 miles from the Philippines.”

Yes. But Chicoms claim all of it.

China is building at least 20 warships a year in 17 shipyards1. In 2021, China commissioned at least 28 ships2. In 2016, the Chinese Navy commissioned 18 ships, including a Type-052D guided missile destroyer, three Type-054A guided missile frigates and six Type-056 corvettes3. China is the leading shipbuilding country in the world3
