Meghan McCain believes that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis would have much higher polling numbers if other GOP presidential candidates would drop out of the race, thereby leaving it between him and former President Donald Trump.
McCain, the daughter of former Arizona Sen. John McCain and a former co-host of “The View,” made her proposal in a Sunday Op-Ed for the U.K.’s Daily Mail.
As she explained, polling data shows Trump with a significant lead over his closest challenger. The RealClearPolitics polling average puts the former president at 46.0 percent compared with 15.8 percent for DeSantis.
“It’s make or break time, America,” McCain wrote. This, she said, is “a final wake-up call” and there will be “no more smashing the snooze button” for Republicans who want to avoid a repeat of the 2020 race between Trump and President Joe Biden.
“Let’s be clear about what DeSantis is up against. He’s splitting the ‘anyone but Trump vote’ with seven other GOP candidates,” McCain wrote. “Of course, he’s struggling.
“Barring a miracle, it’ll be Trump vs. Biden come November 2024 and the vast majority of voters will be holding their noses as they pull the lever. But there is a way through — just listen to New Hampshire’s Republican Governor Chris Sununu.”
She pointed to Sununu’s comments last week on Fox News: “‘If seven of those candidates have the discipline to get out, Trump loses. … Make it a one-on-one race, Trump loses. There’s no question about it.”
McCain continued, “So here we go: a plea to the GOP field. If you’re not consistently polling in the double-digits nationally then drop out! That leaves two: Don and Ron. Everyone else is just filling a debate stage podium.”

When Robert F. Kennedy was killed in 1968 the others moved upward but Hubert Humphrey was nominated (during the biggest political riots in US history).
If the Dems kill our nominee then the others will move up.

Folks need to wake up, this entire “primary” is a joke.
Trump was the defacto nominee as of Jan 7, 2021.
Everyone else running is racing to try to grab their section of the 30-35% of the primary vote left. End of the day, Trump will be the nominee with well over 60% of the votes cast... very possibly more than 70% of the votes casts when its all done.
Anyone selling you that any other person running in this primary has a chance in hell, is pissing on your leg and telling you its rain.
You don’t have to like Trump, but that’s the stone cold reality.

I suspect if they assassinate Trump, you are going to see bullets in a LOT of other folks heads in response.
I don’t say I condone this, but, if bullets start flying, I really don’t think they will stop with Trump if that’s the power’s that be’s plan...
I could be wrong, but the country is nowhere near it was in the 60s.... The public as a whole is not nearly as naive about their government as they were back then.
If the powers that be decide to take Trump out to clear the way for a more “acceptable” president... I suspect highly a LOT of other candidates on both sides will wind up dead... I do not say that as threat, but as an observer of the political state of America.
I do not see retaliation not happening by someone, or multiple someones, if Trump were to be assassinated to keep him from the White House.

True. That was the same problem the anti-Trump crowd had in 2016. They refused to work together.
Had they got together, there was a slim chance to defeat Trump. But they didn’t, and so were defeated piecemeal.
Unite or Die.
In this case, it isn’t going to make a difference either.

She comes from a line of deep swamp uniparty rinos, and she’s been carrying on with her father’s legacy....
So she represents the uniparty, and of course, she would lend her endorsement and support for the chosen uniparty candidate, desantis.
After all, the GOPe uniparty rinos are all afraid of losing their power, if Trump gets back into office.
