This is assuming that AI actually becomes sentient. Large intellectual leap there, and one that has not yet been satisfactorily plotted out.

AI can only work within the parameters that are set by its programmers, and not a few of them have already displayed mischievous or malevolent intent.

Skynet may be closer than we think.

It doesn’t require sentience to create chaos. Large corporations, institutions, and governments start relying on powerful algorithms and other policy suggestions from such machines will help create a dystopian landscape in many ways. Trans humanism, genetic requirements, forced allocations, etc etc. The main reason we are who we are is because we are human; thus humanity. Once that resets we are all in danger.
