Former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly Resurrects Lie About Donald Trump Calling Veterans 'Suckers' and 'Losers'

Remember back when the left-leaning elite media claimed former President Donald Trump made disparaging remarks about wounded veterans? Well, since it appears they have nothing else to do, they are resurrecting that particular false narrative.

Former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, who served under Trump, gave an exclusive interview to CNN in which he “confirmed” that the former president had referred to wounded veterans as “losers” and “suckers.”

Kelly set the record straight with on-the-record confirmation of a number of damning stories about statements Trump made behind closed doors attacking US service members and veterans, listing a number of objectionable comments Kelly witnessed Trump make firsthand.

“What can I add that has not already been said?” Kelly said, when asked if he wanted to weigh in on his former boss in light of recent comments made by other former Trump officials. “A person that thinks those who defend their country in uniform, or are shot down or seriously wounded in combat, or spend years being tortured as POWs are all ‘suckers’ because ‘there is nothing in it for them.’ A person that did not want to be seen in the presence of military amputees because ‘it doesn’t look good for me.’ A person who demonstrated open contempt for a Gold Star family – for all Gold Star families – on TV during the 2016 campaign, and rants that our most precious heroes who gave their lives in America’s defense are ‘losers’ and wouldn’t visit their graves in France.”

Haven’t we gone through this already?

As it turns out, we have.

The original claims about Trump’s comments came from an article in The Atlantic that said the former president refused to visit a World War I memorial in France when he made the comments. However, everyone in Trump’s orbit – including some who later turned on him, denied these claims.

Former and current White House officials angrily denied a report that President Trump disparaged American war dead, saying instead that he was “livid” that bad weather meant he could not visit a French cemetery for U.S. soldiers killed in World War I.

The controversy stems from 2018, when Trump was expected to lay a wreath at Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial, a trip abandoned at the last moment on the grounds that heavy rain made conditions unsuitable for helicopter travel.

It was later revealed through emails that Trump did not show up to the memorial because of “bad weather,” not because he was disrespecting Americans who fought in WWI.

White House official has sent an image of redacted email apparently showing "bad weather call" was indeed cause of Trump not attending Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in 2018.

Dan Scavino and Stephen Miller were also both there - and deny Atlantic story

Even the former National Security Advisor to Trump, John Bolton, who has no love for the former president, denied that he made the comments and even corroborated the contents of the email explaining why Trump did not go to the memorial.

The opening to the much-discussed Atlantic article, and the same events as described in John Bolton's memoir.

Perhaps CNN should have looked deeper into this story before trying to get a former Trump official to repeat a blatant falsehood to score cheap political points.

It’s astonishing how many USMC Generals of this era turned out to be stone cold traitors. Mattis, Allen, and Kelly. Only a fool believes Trump said that. Just more fake BS from DC like Russian prostitutes and pissgate.

I have always admired Marines until I became familiar with lying scumbags like John Kelly, Mike Pence, and others from the Trump administration. What disappointments they are. I still like grunts.

This is, unfortunately, not a John Kelly problem. It’s a Donald Trump problem.
Trump appointed Kelly, Mattis, Bolton, Sessions, etc.

Those were all terrible choices. I do not care about what any of them might say.
But I do care about what Trump has to say. What did he learn from all these fiascos?

“This is, unfortunately, not a John Kelly problem. It’s a Donald Trump problem.

This is the unfortunate downside when we nominate a DC outsider. A president has to fill a great many positions.
Hundreds.
He must rely upon advisers as to whom to appoint for every position. All presidents rely upon advisers for this task. An insider knows the type they are looking for and advisers provide lists to choose from.
President Trump’s shocking victory took The Swamp entirely by surprise. As an outsider he was reliant upon Republican advisers for the lists of potential candidates.
The Swamp knew this and packed those lists with Backstabbers.
The man is now far more aware of this than he was during his first term. He’s learned the hard way.

Lemuel Shepherd, Jr. (1896-1990), Commandant of the Marine Corps from 1952 to 1955, was wounded twice in the battle of Belleau Wood. I have a photo of my father with him taken in 1954.

I hope Trump did not make such comments and given the source, it's very unlikely that he did.

This creep. He disgraced his position when Trump gave his first U.N. speech, which was brilliant, and which contributed powerfully to the four years of peace we experienced with Trump in office. Trump made, if not a friend, at least an admirer out of Kim Jong Un, who stopped threatening us constantly after Trump called him "Rocket Man" during that speech.

John Kelly did a face palm when Trump said that, in front of the entire world watching that televised speech.

Clearly he did not understand our enemy, Kim, the way Trump did. Kim went to university in the West, no doubt enjoying pop music with his classmates, understood the underlying humor and even hipness in being called by the name of an Elton John song as Trump's way of riveting his attention while he announced our displeasure with nuclear tests. Later Kim would welcome Trump's visit and his experienced eye as he toured North Korea with Kim, with DJT explaining to Kim how NKor's landscape features could be developed for tourism and profitability. The two got along famously. John Kelly didn't get it, and undercut his superior officer, the Commander in Chief.

Trump also called out Venezuela's slide into chaos during that great speech, in no uncertain terms, capping off his description of the destruction of that country this way:

“The problem in Venezuela is not that socialism has been poorly implemented, but that socialism has been faithfully implemented. [Applause] From the Soviet Union to Cuba to Venezuela, wherever true socialism or communism has been adopted, it has delivered anguish and devastation and failure. Those who preach the tenets of these discredited ideologies only contribute to the continued suffering of the people who live under these cruel systems. America stands with every person living under a brutal regime. ”

One HAS to wonder how much these supposedly “honorable” men are being paid, and by whom, to turn on the best President in my lifetime (1941 - 2023)!

Governor Ronald Reagan was steered by the ‘powers that be’ to accept George HW Bush as his vice president.

In 1981, President Reagan selected Eric Holder to be a Superior Court Judge in Washington DC – yes, that Eric Holder.

The recommendation came from his vice president. George H W Bush was CIA Director ’76/’77.

Agreed, who needs a bunch of woke tin pot generals like Kelly? Who would you believe - Transgender Milley or Honest Don?

Just because someone parades around in a uniform shouldn't give them any cred. While McCain was singing like a canary to the VC, President Trump was fighting his personal VietNam as a Captain of Enterprise. And I guarantee he handled far more Assets at the time than any of those losers.

That is an interesting take on serving in Vietnam, do you remember how Trump described his Vietnam, it wasn’t the description you used.

Good question. Looking back (and hindsight is always 20-20), Rudy Guilliani seems to have been the most solid guy around Trump. Perhaps Rudy should have chaired a search committee for presidential appointments.

Hopefully Trump 2.0 will be an improvement. And as others here have noted, it probably will be.
