Could someone translate all this for us non-geeks?
Who’s on first and what does it all mean?

“Who’s on first”
Yes, Who.
If computers become smarter than humans turn off the lights and lock the doors.
It is the market.
MSFT is poised to win the open AI transition of knowledge.
It is being sold as a new market at the beginning.
It very well may be true, or not.
Short summary:
2 organizations, OpenAI (not-for-profit) and Microsoft. OpenAI created a product called ChatGPT and attracted investors. Microsoft invested billions and now owns 49% of OpenAI.
Last weekend OpenAI's board dismissed the founder (Altman) and the CEO (Brockman). Upon hearing this, many OpenAI employees threatened to resign. Microsoft moved to protect it's investment and ensure stability at OpenAI. The result is Altman returns to OpenAI and the board composition changes.
At the center of the conflict is the ethical use of AI and potential safety & security risks.
Ask the guy on second.
I asked ChatGPT to rewrite the article:
Hey, so like, Microsoft totally took over OpenAI, and it’s kinda crazy! OpenAI started as this cool non-profit thing to use AI for good, but now it’s all different. There was this guy, Sam Altman, who didn’t know much about tech, but he got loads of money to make apps. Then Microsoft invested a bunch in OpenAI and made Sam the boss. He started making money with ChatGPT and gave Microsoft the keys.
But here’s the twist: OpenAI’s smart people were like, “Whoa, we might create a super-smart AI soon,” and they wanted to follow the rules in their founding thingy. Sam tried to hide it because it meant they had to stop making money. The board found out and fired him.
Then, Microsoft and their buddies in the media started a big fuss, saying the board did a bad thing. They wanted Sam back and the board gone. And guess what? They got their way, and now Microsoft is kinda in charge of OpenAI and that super-smart AI stuff. Crazy, right? 😮
