New York City's Police Department Imploding
Hot Air ^ | 27 Nov 2023 | David Strom

New York City Mayor Eric Adams was elected largely because he ran as a moderate who would be tough on crime.

Now the embattled Mayor is facing challenge after challenge, not the least of which is that his NYC Police Department is imploding, and he doesn’t even have the funds to run and hire from his own police academy due to the expenses stemming from the migrant crisis. He is slashing $4 billion from city services in order to pay for taking care of the illegal migrants who have flooded New York due to its sanctuary policy.

So New York City has frozen hiring at the NYPD, which begs the question: what do losses look like?

New York City has the largest police force in the United States, but even an organization this large can’t sustain losses of the magnitude New York is facing. Especially during a crime wave so bad that it dominated the campaign for Mayor in 2021.

Adams is turnng out to be more disastrous than DeBlasio - which is saying a lot. And why would anyone want to serve on the PD when they receive no political support and are handcuffed from doing the job the way it needs to be done? Ands have to constantly worry about being prosecuted themselves if their do their job?

Neo Marxists have set the USA on a path of inflation, debt, political division and violence, and in places like NY City, its far too late to change it.

Implosion is a good thing.

Greg Kelly warned people in NYC over and over on his radio show not to vote for Adams, that he knew Adams and said he’s a loser and of course the morons voted for him anyway because he’s black and democrap.

Something very noticeable is that no one really puts out the effort to fight anymore, the culture has changed. Once upon a time if NY's finest had been subject to absurd conditions or controls there would have been protests put on and marching in the streets. Fire & brimstone speeches and press releases from police officials and their union reps, fighting for their jobs, their profession. Now people file resignations and disappear. One day there won't be anywhere to resign away off to if passive acceptance of the absurd continues.

Great opportunity for private security firms. Hire the good people who are too disgusted to work for the city.

Now the embattled Mayor is facing challenge after challenge

They're "challenges" of his own making, simply because he is an evil dullard, a personification of the Peter Principle. And yes, he is more disastrous than DiBlasio.

Hard to believe New Yorkers okay’d NYC’s Sanctuary City status. Other cities should take note before it’s too late. https://www.fairus.org/7-lesser-known-sanctuary-cities-united-states

Between law enforcement officers leaving “progressive” cities — some for early retirement and some for work in happier surroundings — and the military missing its recruitment goals by large percentages now — woke is broke, in terms of personnel — this is a “walk away” moment, as the “progressives” never considered what would / will happen as the “voluntary” no longer volunteer, whether for sign-up bonuses, reenlistment or simply staying on the job.

How many here on Free Republic who served in the military are now advising their younger family members to NOT enlist?

A sea change is in the air. The only way snake oil sales ever worked was when the con men could leave town.... Now they're sitting in elected positions, and wondering how to corral more new rubes, when there aren't anymore.

Hard to believe New Yorkers okay’d NYC’s Sanctuary City status.

As long as it's just a theory, it works just fine and looks good on the social responsibility resume. Which is to say, it looks good until the first busload of illegals shows up expecting service. Followed by the next bus. And the next bus. And the next bus.

Reality is a Harsh Mistress.
