Minister Gallant met with the Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom and had a candle lighting ceremony with him.
The Defense Minister told his British counterpart at the end of the meeting: "Mr. Secretary of Defense, thank you for coming here in crucial days for the State of Israel. This is a historic visit, which comes more than 25 years after the last visit of a British defense minister to Israel."
"Two months ago the citizens of Israel were brutally attacked by Hamas terrorists - now we fight and are determined to continue until a crushing victory."
"Israel and Britain share common values, and unfortunately also common threats. Together we will know how to overcome them for the benefit of strengthening regional security and stability."
At the end of their meeting, the two lit the first candle of Hanukkah. Minister Gallant greeted and said to his British colleague:
"Today we celebrate the first day of Hanukkah, the holiday that symbolizes the victory of the Maccabees over their enemies. Maccabi did not have a state, and we have a state that will protect our citizens - we are determined to do it.'
