Way to empower the EU with leverage over the US President. A-holes.

Oh well, the Commander in Chief has endless options on how to marginalize NATO.

Friggin’ NATO. More worthless than the UN.

Jimmy Carter withdrew from the Panama Canal Treaty unilaterally.

Barry Goldwater then sued under the theory that since the Senate plays a role in getting the US into a treaty, it has to be involved in getting the US out of a treaty.

However, Carter’ treaty abrogation sttod.

There’s plenty of precedent.

And Trump himself pulled the US out of the INF treaty.

So let them sue if Trump decides to abrogate the NATO treaty.

What “authorization” was needed for the U.S. to join NATO.
Was congress involved in that decision?

Republicans continuing to help the Democrats to diminish the Executive Power of the Office of the President, something they’ve been assisting with for years now.

The bill is toothless as it should be people. Article II of our Constitution grants power of foreign policy to the president.

Upon reading the actual articles of The North Atlantic Treaty, I don't think the United States can withdraw, or the entire treaty falls apart.

See the following Articles (emphasis mine):

Article 10

The Parties may, by unanimous agreement, invite any other European State in a position to further the principles of this Treaty and to contribute to the security of the North Atlantic area to accede to this Treaty. Any State so invited may become a Party to the Treaty by depositing its instrument of accession with the Government of the United States of America. The Government of the United States of America will inform each of the Parties of the deposit of each such instrument of accession.

Article 11

This Treaty shall be ratified and its provisions carried out by the Parties in accordance with their respective constitutional processes. The instruments of ratification shall be deposited as soon as possible with the Government of the United States of America, which will notify all the other signatories of each deposit. The Treaty shall enter into force between the States which have ratified it as soon as the ratifications of the majority of the signatories, including the ratifications of Belgium, Canada, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States, have been deposited and shall come into effect with respect to other States on the date of the deposit of their ratifications.

Article 13

After the Treaty has been in force for twenty years, any Party may cease to be a Party one year after its notice of denunciation has been given to the Government of the United States of America, which will inform the Governments of the other Parties of the deposit of each notice of denunciation.

Article 14

This Treaty, of which the English and French texts are equally authentic, shall be deposited in the archives of the Government of the United States of America. Duly certified copies will be transmitted by that Government to the Governments of other signatories.

The United States has been established as the custodians of the treaty. The spectacle of the United States withdrawing from the treaty by notifying itself, and then depositing the withdrawal into an archive that it will no longer maintain is comical at worst.

Like it or not, it appears that by treaty, the United States owns NATO, manages its processes, and therefore cannot withdraw itself from it without the whole thing falling apart entirely.

The United States withdrawing from NATO would be the western equivalent of the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain. It would be synonymous with the fall of the Soviet Union.

Trump should do it and dare them to impeach him.

That pesky constitution thingy states as much....
The only way withdrawing from a treaty is even remotely possible is if the treaty is not adhered to by either party.
Europe wasn’t living up to the terms of the treaty.
Some countries still are not.
The treaty is null and void.

Not so hard. Trump just stops sending leaders to Nato. Trump withdraws troops and arms from Nato.

He doesn’t have to withdraw from NATO.

As CINC he can order NATO deployed units to come home and put them on the border.

As CINC he can limit how many NATO personnel are embedded with the US military.

As CINC, he can do all sorts of things that he’ll figure out and Congress will have no idea how to counter.

Florida……Crist, DeSantis, Demings, Rubio, Grayson. You voters need to get a clue.

They are panicking about Trump's return to the oval office.

They will try and destroy his next term as much as possible (more BS laws and regulations) before he even gets in

But a presidential EO could still block US funding of NATO, stop troop deployment with NATO and end US participation in NATO training exercises.

Yeah, we’re still in NATO we just don’t participate on any meaningful level.
