The regulatory authority for all this is based on the 1991 Clean Air Act, so you can thank H W Bush for giving the Admin State authority to do this.

“..!990 Clean Air Act...”

Which in a sane world, would have been headed to the dustbin of history a long time ago..

Mine was so nice, I decided that I would always make it from scratch if I can do it far enough ahead of time. It wasn’t hard, just time consuming. Now the mushrooms to cover the tenderloin with was another thing. I don’t have a food processor, so that was done by hand, too. It was a labor of love, that Beef Wellington. It was fabulous, though. Just beautiful.

We have to stop using the words “climate activist” and replace with “weather retard” as we laugh in their faces

I have what was a top of the line 12 year old Kenmore fridge that stopped working. A bit of troubleshooting identified that I needed a new starter kit. I contacted a parts supplier, but they couldn’t get the right starter kit, and I ended up waiting for months....fortunately I have another fridge. When the delay in getting parts continued I told the parts supplier they were forcing me to scrap a fridge all for the sake of what should have been a readily available part. The parts supplier told me “you absolutely do not want to scrap that fridge....the new ones are such junk you will be very lucky to get 5 years out of one and it might be only 2 or 3.” OK....so I put the Kenmore in the garage and waited.

So there’s the dilemma....new ones are junk and parts for old ones are unavailable at least for my Kenmore. I do know one thing.....the other reason why I wanted my Kenmore fixed was because it was understandable and easy to repair. In researching the new ones they appear to be unserviceable and thus no option but to junk if they fail.

What an unworkable situation....clearly other options are needed.

New microwaves are not much better.

Best option for those is to check thrift stores to see what they have.

We have a couple older ones, same model, we got for each kid when they went to college. We got them back when they went out on their own. Then I found one of the exact model in a thrift store for $8 and snatched it for parts.

Parts for the new ones cost almost as much as the new one would to they seem to be deliberately making with planned obsolescence. Which is so hypocritical when they complain about the wasted natural resources in our disposable society.

Well, fer crying out loud, make stuff to last and easy to repair and nobody will be filling up landfills with staff that shouldn’t have to be scrapped in only a couple years.

That is all you need to know right there to understand that this never was about ‘reducing energy’ or the ‘environment’...This is all just part of a grand marketing scheme of some sort. I suspect that the WEF theme of ‘owning nothing’ is part of it and very quickly we’ll get to the point where it is norm to not own a fridge..... you’ll just buy ‘cooling’ and they will just replace it every few years.

The updated standards will start being implemented between 2029 and 2030.

Good deal their dumb asses will be long gone and their plans.

But you can still visit them from 11:00am to 4:00pm at a happy farm near you.

It MIGHT lower utility costs, but it will assuredly increase capital and maintenance costs most likely more than any possible savings on utility bills.

Our main refrigerator is over 30 years old GE. The style is iconic because they made so many of them (side by side doors, ice dispenser, etc...). About 15 years ago, it needed a minor repair. My wife made the comment to the repair man that maybe we just needed a new one. The repair man told her absolutely do not replace it. That type was bullet proof, easy to repair and there was a hundred years worth of spare parts available. It hasn't had a problem since them.

OBTW, the repairman told her that cleaning the cooling fins regularly (every year or so) would double the life of it. And for some strange reason, after the kids left home and all of pets died, the cooling fins no longer attract fuzz.
