That doesn’t look temporary to me.

Grounded again? I can’t say I’m impressed with its service record. Some would call it poor designing.

Certified missing fasteners.

That didn’t just snap off.

Report will be interesting.

Should answer the question - Who’s the F’tard?

I don’t know why they keep reporting this as a window blowing out it’s clear that this was an emergency exit door that detached

The media is all about getting eyeballs on the TV or people clicking on links to raise revenue. The full story and/or the truth doesn’t matter

"...after a section of an Alaska Airlines plane detached mid-flight"

LOL. On the bright side, the section that "detached" wasn't as big as the part that detached on Aloha Airlines Flight 243 in 1988.

There was a spot where a door or a window could be specified. The airline had Boeing put in a window panel.

The whole panel blew out from the fuselage.

Could it be that F’tard’s full name is “D. E. I. F’tard”?

Correct, it wasn't a window, but it also wasn't an emergency door that detached. Alaska has it's 737 Max 9 planes configured with fewer seats than normal, and therefore is only required to have 6 emergency exits instead of the standard 8 for the Max 9. So they took out the extra 2 emergency exit doors and plugged up the space. It was one of those "plugs" that detached.

I'm still in the listening and info gathering stages before developing an opinion, however I'm not sure that it was an emergency exit door. I think it's where an emergency door could go, if the A/C config required it, but apparently just a plug or panel.

Corrections invited, as the above are just my guesses until the next edition of Av Week comes out and we get the full scoop.

“emergency exit door”

It looks bigger than that. There are no structural elements left in that opening. You’d at least expect to see the structural frame for the emergency exit door, but I don’t see any structural members in the photo of the opening. The door frame should still be intact. I think it’s going to be a lot worse than just the emergency exit door blowing out.

Yes, door. Surprised so many reports say window or panel.

Interesting. Thanks.

It almost looks like the factory installed a temporary plug that wasn’t structurally attached and was meant to be replaced with a permanent plug later on. It’s shocking how that “plug” blew out without any structural damage where it connects to the fuselage.

“No one seated near the window.” Sure, before or after the door flew off?

The structure that detached is called either a “plug” or “panel.” See my comment above.
