In the latest in his series of public political takes, X owner Elon Musk remarked about how crazy he thinks it is that people in the United States can in many cases vote without a government-issued ID as well as mail ballots in.

He’s right.
Even during the virus, Europeans had to vote in person - and guess what, the world didn’t end. Also, they got ONE DAY to vote, and that was it.

Of course it’s insane. In many countries they still dip your finger in ink so you have to show up and vote in person and Jimmy Carter’s people watch to make sure it’s a fair election.

Republicans had decades to push for “Voter ID” laws since it had over 80% approval across the board in America. Now I’m sure it’s too late to do anything about it.
Agreed. I probably posted something about this at the time, updated today for the fact that we use too many electronic voting machines:
Congress could allocate money to help states improve their ballots, but put a lot of strings on getting that money such as 1) cleanse the voter rolls and force everyone to re-register (money can be allocated for public awareness of this requirement) 2) voter ID 3) mail-in ballots must be requested in writing 4) computer tabulators must be independently verified and source code open to all 5) all ballot counting centers must have enough cameras to view the entire process and the cameras must be live-streamed and archived for public viewing.
