I don't think Tucker Carlson got what he bargained for in this interview. The interview ran about two hours but most of that was made up of Putin's rambling answers that sometimes went on for 10-20 minutes.
To his credit, Carlson started at the most obvious starting point for a discussion with Putin, which is the reasons behind the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Instead of a clear answer he got a 30 minute lecture about the history of the region going back to the 8th century.
(snip)
Carlson interrupted several times saying he wasn't sure why all of this was relevant and Putin just continued his spiel. Carlson also pointed out that when he launched the invasion last year, Putin has said that he was concerned about the possibility of a US surprise attack on Russia. Putin seemed to be doing his best to drown out those former explanations with the new 30 minute history lesson.
The fifteen minutes after that was a recitation of Putin's own outreach to the United States which he says rejected his offers at every turn.
(snip)
In any case, all of this leads to Putin's claim that the war he started in 2022 was really an attempt to stop a war started by the west.
Asked if he had stopped that war yet, Putin said no he hadn't achieved his aims because they hadn't "denazified" Ukraine yet. Carlson asked Putin what "denazification" meant and why it was relevant when Hitler was been dead for 80 years. Putin's response was to imply that Zelensky is a Nazi and that Nazism still needs to be stamped out. At this point, Putin sounded more like an Antifa member in Portland than a president.

It was a great interview, I learned a lot. It’s refreshing seeing honest reporters report the honest views of competent world leaders.
Sean hannity should have interviewed putin.
Putin speaks like a democrat.
I do not trust him.
One doesn’t have to trust Putin. But letting the man speak and say what he wants to say provides the “Russian/Putin” view of history. If anyone understands anything about Russia, history drives their thought and actions.
A good interview need not be combative, but to allow the interviewee have complete thoughts and answers., No one has to accept the answers, but for now, Putin’s understanding of his country’s history is driving Russia’s current actions. It would be a good thing to listen to his answers.
Neocon-pseudocon warmongers gonna do the neocon-pseudocon warmonger spin, not learn a damn thing.
“Sean hannity should have interviewed putin.”

Or Steve Bannon.
Contrast the two leaders. Putin comes across as competent, unapologetic and very involved. Joe looks like a nursing home escapee who was tracked down for the fourth time this week by his handlers using his GPS anklet.
I did listen to him.
His history is a bit twisted... but so is ours, depending which side is asked. Unfortunately, Ukraine has a selfish enemy for president.
Zalenskyy speaks like a Democrat
LOL, yes!!
Yeah, Hannity... that’s just what we needed. A simpleton idiot who interrupts halfway through every sentence and argues with the interviewee. Any other good ideas?
Oh how we’ve been lied to by our media and our so called leaders. I remember when they said Putin has cancer, Putin has Parkinsons..
Personally I think we’ve being governed by behind the scenes arrogant a-holes whose only interest is for themselves.
So his argument is “history is toooo boring for anyone to listen to!”
Just wow.
This is so intellectually lazy.
“Sean hannity should have interviewed putin.”
That would have been both entertaining and intensely cringe worthy. Hannity has the listening attention span of about 8 seconds. Imagine him trying to listen to Putin’s history lessons.
No, it’s dishonest and wrong.
How was Tucker able to conduct this interview since Putin has been dead or completely incapacitated several times?
What war were they discussing since Ukraine and/or Russia have “completely collapsed” days ago, weeks ago, months ago, years ago, etc.?
Boy, John has been a busy little beaver the past few days.
