'Good for the country': Squad members Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman outraised by Democratic challengers as primaries loom

It appears that two "Squad" members could see their time in the House of Representatives comes to an end in the upcoming election cycle. Representatives Cori Bush of Missouri and Jamaal Bowman of New York have both been financially outraised by their more moderate Democratic challengers, according to a report by Fox News Digital.

Bush has been under investigation by the Justice Department for handing out tens of thousands of dollars in campaign funds to a security firm. And now she has been outraised by attorney Wesley Bell, who is running a more moderate Democratic campaign.

"Missouri’s 1st District deserves a representative who shows up, does the work and gets things done," Bell said in a statement. "I’m honored by our fast-growing list of endorsements from community members and local officials and energized by the incredible momentum of support driving our campaign."

Bowman is also a controversial figure who pleaded guilty to pulling a fire alarm in the House to delay a vote during the government shutdown debate. While he still raised $724,000 in the last quarter of 2023, he was outraised by George Latimer, who brought in $1.4 million in campaign donations.

Bowman has also come under fire after making conspiratorial comments about 9/11 while working as a school principal in the Bronx. A report noted that Bowman gave a platform to a multitude of false theories about the terrorist attacks.

“Well over a decade ago, as I was debating diving into a doctoral degree, I explored a wide range of books, films, and articles across a wide swath of the political spectrum and processed my thoughts in a personal blog that few people ever read,” Bowman said in a statement to the Daily Beast.

Mark Mellman — a veteran Democratic pollster and leader of the Democratic Majority for Israel — told The Hill on Friday that "it's a very small group to begin with," referencing the Squad members. “It would be good for the party and good for the country if it got smaller.”

Bill Neidhardt, a spokesperson for Bowman's re-election effort, told The Hill that there is a "fundamental weakness" to Latimer's fundraising strategy, adding that "his connection to Republican Trump mega-donors" could spell disaster for the moderate Democrat.

"His money won’t go as far in a Democratic primary where the electorate wants to hold Donald Trump accountable," he added.

Despite their struggle to raise money and their anti-Israel rhetoric amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Bush and Bowman are still considered tough to defeat.

AOC’s “squawd” members better get busy. Maybe put out “tip” jars at the local convenience stores or start a GoFundMe page.

The last time a Republican held Cori Bush’s seat was from 1943 to 1949 (Samuel Arnold).

And the last time a Republican held Bowman’s seat was from 1945 to 1949 by Ellsworth Buck.

Wesley Bell is not an upgrade, to replace Cori Bush.
