If you check your recent history the BJP has not been kindly disposed toward Christians. So, this is a little surprising and in need of verification.

It's verified, and highly publicized. How many Christians India will actually take in remains to be seen. Not sure if there is a significant number of Indian Christians in Islamic nations at this time.

There are 1.64 million Christians in Pakistan. Life for them would be much better in India

Pakistan has huge Christian minority.
Muslims somewhat tolerate Christians, but hate Hindu and Buddhists with real passion.
That’s why Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs were forced to leave or be massacred in Pakistan. Christians stayed, but are second class citizens now.
