President Trump is now the standard bearer of the Republican party.
That is sufficient reason in and of itself.

The context is being Vice President, a truly worthless office whose only real function is to kiss the President’s ass.
A serving State Governor would be foolish to take it, even as a favor to “the standard bearer” of his party.
