Multiple regions across the US declared a state of emergency in preparation for the solar eclipse that will transverse the continental US on April 8. While Monday’s eclipse will be at least partially visible throughout all 48 contiguous states, officials are concerned that tourists will flood areas where the totality can be viewed. The path of totality-where the moon completely blocks the face of the sun – begins in Texas and heads in a narrow band up toward the Northeast, stretching across portions of 13 US states and parts of Canada and Mexico.
There will not be another visible total solar eclipse in the contiguous U.S. for another two decades, until 2044, according to NASA.
Many of the regions are expecting record numbers of visitors on the day of the eclipse.
In New York, Officials in Essex County declared a state of emergency Wednesday to run from April 6-10, according to NBC affiliate WPTZ. Oswego County, New York made a similar announcement, according to WSYR.
Officials in Kaufman, Bell, Kerr, Coryell, Gatesville, and Travis counties in Texas announced that a state of emergency will begin on April 5 and go through April 9.
Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb issued a state of emergency declaration on March 26, effective until 11:59 p.m. on April 9
The panic has even spread to Canada. Ontario’s Niagara Region has declared a preemptive state of emergency.
Generally, a state of emergency gives the government the authority to do whatever is necessary for the safety of people and the protection of property. Typical actions can include restricting movements, shutting down traffic routes, suspending regulations to expedite response, and creating new emergency legal sanctions.

We’ve been this way since before the 20th century started.
Entire villages and towns were full of pearl clutchers whenever the Indians or some gang of bandits were on the loose.
I saw the eclipse a few years ago. It wasn’t a big deal. I don’t get what the hysteria is.
TWC hyping this thing like the world is ending.
My college town was in the center of the 2017 eclipse path and there was no problem.
The only reason there would be a problem this time is because they want there to be.
They want to be able to call a state of emergency for nothing now. The government is insatiable for more control over us and must be stopped. I would however avoid any large events because Mr potato head probably let in a bunch of terrorists along our southern border.

BREAKING: U.S. intelligence officials are warning of violence targeting mass gatherings days before millions gather to watch the eclipse.
The FBI and Homeland Security are increasingly worried about threats from ISIS and “lone wolves” in the U.S.
The intel bulletin specifically warns people to be cautious at “mass gatherings such as sports stadiums, concert venues, or houses of worship in the United States.”
The warning is similar to the one U.S. officials gave in Russia on March 7, warning U.S. citizens to stay away from large gatherings for 48 hours due to “imminent plans” from extremists.

It’s not hysteria, it’s a fun party and educational if you are into photography and like astronomy. We’ve been to two, had a blast, met nice, talented people who were helping others get their shots. The one in Farmington, N.M. was so funny at the hotel. The hotel workers didn’t even know there was an eclipse until the morning of the event. They asked why all these people with fancy cameras were around.
More retired boomers who are getting bucket list items checked....especially vaxxxxers!!!
