If you don’t you lose total control and the protesters rightfully understand that they have won.
These students are from the generation where their parents counted to 3, then counted to 3 again, and insisted this time they meant it. The parents refused to set boundaries and stick to them and the children got away with their disobedience. The parents later wondered what had gone wrong. The college is doing the same thing.
