Fascinating reading. I saw a program on Discovery or TLC a few years back on these mummies, but I don't remember much speculation on their origins other than that of the Uyghurs, I believe it was. I'm glad you reposted it. Thanks.

The Uyghurs have adopted one of the mummies as the mother of their country. They have reconstructed the face of the mummy designated as, The Beauty Of Loulan, and have begun to place her image on their money and etc. ...and, of course, the Chinese don't like that.
