Sorry, I didn't mean to be condescending. I do teach a number of older first time computer users, and they tend to come from a more genteel background that regards the informality of the Internet as a little jarring to get used to at first. I guess the ones who don't need my help don't ask me. Besides, I said most, certainly not all, and folks like you who have been online a long time, well, I tip my hat to you. Back in the old IRC days, I have been told that the Internet was more of a "gentlemen's club" (no slight intended to the ladies), where people were polite and helpful to newcomers. Letting the whippersnappers in didn't help things much.
By the way, one man's whippersnapper is another person's old codger, I'm 48, and never touched a mouse until after my 40th birthday.
"Unfortunately, that is my work keyboard"
Aha! A hostile work environment. Sue the bigots.
Bet they don't let you smoke at your desk, either.
Of course, I did get a funny look from one of our ops specialists the other day when I opened a box of PRD's at work and informed him his "beebers" had arrived!
Welcome to FR...you will be fine.
Find some threads that you like. I maintain a prayer ping list...any prayer requests posted that I find out about, I ping the prayer warriors, there is the canteen...where we go to support and provide entertainment for the troops, there is the Lair, where you can go to post poetry.
Lost of dailies...find one or two that you can contribute to. Belonging to a specific group will help you to belong to the whole group.
They will fast discover that the grandmother tactic won't work. We have some pretty sharp and spicy grandmas here on FR, who can take out a troll with one hand and feed a baby with the other.
Next it will be the children.
LOL! And then come back for more.
Well, looks like you were right about that, because you are seriesly dead.
We don't demand that you conform, but neither can we be bullied into meeting the demands of those who come here into our cyber home and disrespectly complain that WE are disrespectful. Yes, I know that is democRAT SOP, but it won't fly here. Look, if you don't like it here, by all means, go someplace else. Most of us don't give a d**n about being politically correct. We do care about being genuine. You people are always hollering about somebody getting offended, yet you fail to see the hypocrisy in offending us by the positions you defend and by the fundamental dishonesty that drives them. Then you have the nerve to get upset when we don't embrace you.
A word of advice; get over it and get real or get out.
It sounds like you've reinvented yourself more times than Al Gore, and that is frowned upon here.
"this forum has a responsibility to "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness"
So what are you, the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness police now? I don't know how Jim ever managed this long without you to hold him accountable for adhering to the mission statement of this site.
"The faster the ground flies up at them, the more they flail their arms.'
and flail their lips and gnash their teeth!:)
YEAH! Take THAT!
LOL!!!!! (I won't tell you that you referred to Brad as a baby, ok? That'll be our little secret. LOL!!)
Your point is well made; let us not ignore the obvious. Still, sometimes a respondent just has to play along.
Mornin' BG.
(..... Back in the old IRC days, I have been told that the Internet was more of a "gentlemen's club" (no slight intended to the ladies), where people were polite and helpful to newcomers.....)
Helpful to newcomers. Yes. Polite? Up to a point. The Irc ops performed the same function as the Moderators here. Trolls were called "nuke'ers" and were toyed with before they were kicked or banned. Newcomers were "newbies",and tolerated for a while. AOL user's were scorned and told to get a "real ISP." Most chatters it seemed used a program called MIRC to chat. In short IRC channels were set up to operate much as "FREEREPUBLIC" is today.
Didn't touch a mouse till I was past 50.
