The Toronto Argonauts are champions of the CFL, defeating the B.C. Lions 27-19 to win the 92nd Grey Cup.

A field goal expanded the Toronto Argonauts' lead over the B.C. Lions to 27-19 in the fourth quarter of the 2004 Grey Cup game.

It was the third field goal for Argos kicker Noel Prefontaine.

B.C. quarterback Dave Dickenson scored the touchdown from five yards out to make it 24-19, but two excellent runs by Antonio Warren put him in position to do so.

The Lions wanted to try a two-point conversion, but two successive time count violations killed that idea. Then B.C. Lions kicker Duncan O'Mahony missed the convert attempt.

In the third quarter, O'Mahony kicked his second field goal of the game, a 36-yarder at 9:16, to narrow the margin to 24-13.

Before that, Argos quarterback Damon Allen scored his second touchdown at 4:54 of the third quarter to give his team a 24-10 lead. Both his TDs were scored from the one-yard line.

The Argos took the lead for the second time late in the second quarter. Allen tossed the ball to receiver Robert Baker, who showed great second effort to turn it into a 23-yard touchdown. That made the score 17-10 for the Argos.

It broke a tie established when O'Mahony sent a 42-yard field goal through the uprights at 13:13.

Allen, a 41-year-old grandfather, snuck it over the goal line from about one yard out to give his team a 10-7 lead at 12:22.

Earlier in the second, kicker Noel Prefontaine kicked a 27-yard field goal to make it 7-3 at 7:40.

In the first quarter, Prefontaine made a 39-yard field goal, but the Argos were penalized on the play. They had to back up five yards and then he missed. The Lions ran it out to the two-yard-line.

The Lions won the toss and marched steadily down field, culminating with a pass from Dave Dickenson to receiver Jason Clermont deep in the end zone at 4:07 of the first quarter.

Temperature at game time was around four degrees Celsius. Winds were from the southwest at six to nine kilometres per hour. There is a 30 per cent chance of precipitation.

An estimated five million Canadians will watch this year's Grey Cup, but only one blew off a president to do it.

Prime Minister Paul Martin -- in Santiago, Chile for the APEC summit -- turned down a one-on-one session Sunday with Chilean President Ricardo Lagos.

"Today is the biggest football game in Canada," Martin told Lagos by way of explanation.

The Canadian contingent has a big tent with a large-screen TV set up outside the hotel where it is staying. Martin had a video greeting beamed back to the stadium.

Kickoff at Ottawa's Frank Clair Stadium, which is sold out, happened at 6:07 p.m. EST. That means 51,242 were in the stands listening to 16-year-old Keshia Chante sing the national anthem.

The Tragically Hip, one of Canada's best and most beloved rock bands, performed at half-time.

The two coaches are Wally Buono for B.C. and Mike "Pinball" Clemons -- the first black coach to ever lead a CFL team to a championship game.

I can't believe they wouldn't let Shania Twain do the halftime show. I'll never watch again! LOL!

Do they write all there stories in reverse order like a backwards Seinfeld?

A gal I worked with (until I quit last week) is married to a Coach from BC and this will hurt the badly. They had a good team last year and didn't play well. They were better this year and played better also. I think the team won't be back in this form next year is what I'm hearing.
