FREEPER FAMILY TABLE--New Year's Edition
me | December 31, 2004 | grellis

Posted on 12/31/2004 7:22:45 AM PST by grellis

Here it is, the last day of the year. Some of us are scratching our heads, wondering where the year went. Others may be thinking "Well, it's about time!!!"

The end of the year makes some of us reflect upon the twelve months we have just passed through. Was it a good year for us, for our families? Did we make it through any especially challenging challenges--like reading Grellis's threads? Have we accomplished all that we set out to do?

Others do not reflect but rather look ahead to the new year. Do we set realistic goals for ourselves or do we feel the need to set resolutions simply because of what the calendar reads? Do our kids set goals? In what ways do we help our kids plan for the forseeable future?

Then there are others who just want to go out and take advantage of all the clearance sales. It so happens that my beloved, twelve year old coat has gone and expired on me. Sniff

Mazel tov, my friends!

Reading the Grellis thread has been one of the special treats of this year!! Thanks for your hard work Grellis!

One of my favorite songs deals with passing of another year. It is Jimmy Buffet and Matrina McBrides song, Trip Around The Sun.

hear 'em singin' "Happy Birthday"
Better think about the wish I make
This year gone by ain't been a piece of cake
Every day's a revolution
Pull it together and it comes undone
Just one more candle and a trip around the sun

Chorus:

I'm just hanging on while this ol' world keeps spinning
Oh, it's good to know it's out of my control
If there's one thing that I've learned from all this living
Is that it wouldn't change a thing if I let go

You know you never see it coming
You always wind up wondering where it went
Only time will tell if it was time well spent
It's another revelation
Celebrating what I should have done
With these souvenirs of my trip around the sun

Repeat Chorus

Think I'll make a resolution that I'll never make another one
Just enjoy this ride on my trip around the sun
Just enjoy this ride on my trip around the sun
...till it's done

Blessed and prosperous New Years everybody! EM

And to you as well!

I'm one of those folks who makes resolutions. Surprisingly enough, I am pretty good at sticking to them. Last year I resolved to exercise more--since I quit working (I had a very physical job) my muscles have simply vanished. I now exercise 15-30 minutes a day, at least four days a week, much more when its not winter. I know...in Michigan, that means "July."

In the coming year I am going to get back to handwriting correspondence. I used to be a fanatical letter writer but since the kids started coming its just one of those things "I don't have time for." Nonsense, Georgia! Make the time.

Today is my daughters birthday. It brings back a couple of memories like this: When my wife went into labor with her all my friends said, "wont it be cool to have the first baby of the New Year." I said, "No, I want the last baby of the old year. Why? because I got to claim her on my taxes for the whole year even though she was born on the last day.

Also the night she was born the Hospital kicked me out at 8 O'clock so I went to a bar where my friends hung out and celebrated the New Year with them. Their wives were upset that I would go out while my wife was in the hospital with a new baby. I told them that I stayed with her until the hospital kicked me out, so you want me to go home and go to bed on New Years!! Silly story but true.

:) That explains alot! Amazing how we "grow" with our kids! I, too, had my first baby at 19. I didn't know any kid songs or nursery rhymes. Sang stuff like "3-6-9, the goose drank wine", "Yellow Submarine", "Our House", "Tomorrow", "Hey Hey we're the Monkeys"... you get the drift. Poor baby!! I was so proud of myself when I finally "mastered" real nursery rhymes!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

2004 was a good year for me. My beloved husband is still with me and seems to be doing pretty well after three heart attacks in 02 & 03. Best of all, however, was the safe arrival from Heaven of my first and only grandchild. Emma, was six weeks early and her Momma almost didn't make it, but they pulled through and both are fine and healthy. And miracles of all miracles, my son turns out to be a great father (who would have thought?). I'm thankful to be extremely healthy at 71 and still able to hold a job. My prayers for the new year are: Peace on earth. Knowledge of the Living God by the whole world and a turning to him. Restoration for the broken people of SE Asia. Good health for everyone according to God's will.

Personally, I will go back on my Atkin's Diet when all the leftover goodies are gone from the house (LOL). Really, I will. I've gained 5 lbs. God bless us all.

2004 was the best year we have had as a family.

We started homeschooling, the girls danced at Comerica park (I was picked to be mom of the game), we got to join Daddy in Orlando for a homeland security conference and go to the parks, we went to Mackinaw Island, the Soo and Cereal City.

But by far the event that stands out was meeting Laura Bush and having her tell the girls how pretty they looked. A lady took a picture but never sent it to us. I wrote Mrs. Bush and she sent pictures to both of the girls.

The win in November was just the topping on the cake!!!!
Thank You God for all of our blessings!

I got to claim her on my taxes for the whole year even though she was born on the last day.

ROTF!!!

After the births of my kids, I basically said to the hubby, "Congratulations, dear! You can all leave me alone now." All I wanted to do was eat and sleep! I knew that it would be my last chance to do those two things uninterrupted (at least until the next hospital stay!).

I don't keep all of my resoutions. Last new year's, in addition to resolving to exercise more, I resolved to get into the doctor's for a six-month checkup. At that point, I was 18 months overdue for it. Add twelve months, that's where I am today. I really should stop putting it off.

Happy New Year, Grellis and all! We're getting ready for my son and his family to join us tomorrow. Our daughter was ill last weekend, so we postponed our Christmas celebration to this weekend. Gave me more time to shop! Whoohoo!

I didn't make any resolutions last year - admire anyone who can keep them. Plan to try to do some stretching exercises every morning this year. My joints feel better when I do - don't know why I don't keep it up!

You lucky, lucky gal!

I just got my letter of thanks from our President today--very cool. It was a form letter and all, but he wrote my name and "Michigan," so it is suitable for framing! I was feeling kinda low because every GOPer on earth ('cept me, sniff) got a Christmas card from the Bush family. Now I'm all smiles again!

In 2005 we need to set our sights on Stabenow! Are you going to the convention in Feb?

Wonderful prayers! Amen. I'm glad that everyone in your family has been healthy. Its been a rocky year for us health wise. All the constant worrying really began to wear on us, but everyone here is much better now.
