"That's my president," 4-year-old Selah Lubben proudly declares when she looks at the photo of President George W. Bush holding her as a baby in Fargo.
Only 9 months old at the time, Selah became a star that March 2001 day when Bush singled her out in the crowd at Bison Sports Arena.
Dressed in a pink suit and wearing her hair in a white bow, Selah was taken from her father's arms as Bush lifted her up and kissed her cheek.
Now living in Portland, Ore., the former Moorhead family has a framed copy in their living room of The Forum article and photo featuring Selah and the president on that historic day.
Maggie Lubben, Selah's mother, wishes the family could attend Bush's visit to Fargo Thursday to try to get him to sign the photo.
"But we're kind of far away now," she said, adding she doesn't believe Bush has made an Oregon visit since the family moved there two years ago.
Selah's father, David, said it was a powerful experience when the president took note of his baby girl, whose name means "to pause."
"It proved that he was just a real guy. He's down to earth. Here's the most powerful man in the world holding your daughter," David Lubben said in March 2001.
Visitors to the Lubbens' home find Selah's media coverage an interesting discussion piece, Maggie Lubben said. The newspaper page was framed for Selah's first birthday.
"Everybody asks (about it). They think it's a pretty cool thing," Maggie Lubben said.
Living out in Democratic Oregon hasn't changed the Midwestern family's political views.
"During the election, we'd see (Democratic candidate John) Kerry signs and (Selah) would go, 'Oh yucky, Mommy,'" Maggie Lubben said. "We're still Bush supporters."
Ain't this little Lady just so very precious???
I have 8 grand sons but only 4 grand daughters.
One can never have too many grand daughters.
I remember the Prez visited Oregon during the 2004 campaign.
