The teams last met at famed Wembley Stadium in London on Sept. 7, 1994, a 2-0 win for England that came just one hear after the USA’s memorable 2-0 win at Foxboro Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., in the build up to the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Of course, the teams are best remembered for the historic match-up 55 years ago at the 1950 FIFA World Cup in which the United States provided one of the sports biggest upsets ever with a 1-0 win in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Cool. Who wants to see a bunch of cars go round and round and round in Indiana when you can see some real action and strategy?

Sign me soccer_windows_internet_explorer though.

Riots? When was the last time there were riots at a World Cup for instance?

US Soccer team arrives in the Korean DMZ via Chinook.  Look out Brits!

A U.S. Army Chinook helicopter carrying the USA soccer team members flies past a flag.

One of the players that I coached might be on the team. Not quite sure of his status right now. Ben Olsen.

Apparently England are playing in NJ as well. Anyone know who the opponents will be?

It would be nice if Ireland came over again, but they generally only come during years when the finals of the World Cup or European Championships are on and they haven't made it through. I think they'll have some World Cup qualifiers at the end of the season, so its unlikely they'll be coming this year. Oh well, at least there should be a few of the top European club sides over later in the summer.

I remember that 1994 game. I think Alan Shearer got his first England goal that night.

I doubt if too many of the English hooligans will bother to make the trip. Besides, judging by some of the behaviour of American sports fans over the past few years after various basketball and baseball victories, I think US fans have the rioting thing pretty much down at this point.

Thanks for the ping. Excellent news, I had heard a rumors about a US/England matchup this summer, but thought it would be England sending a squad to the Gold Cup.

This may be better, as I think it is more likely they will send a 1st team.

Thanks for the soccer ping.

I am sucker for Euro friendlies. Have seen Roma- Real Madrid, Napoli-Chivas, and Roma Liverpool.

Any thoughts on Spain being knocked out of the Champions League ? So much for the top League in Europe.

I wouldn't write off the Spanish yet. Barcelona could've beaten Chelsea. Real went out to a defensive mistake with three minutes of extra time left. On another night, both would have gone through, and Chelsea and Juve would be gone. Three years ago everyone was writing the obituaries of Serie A, but look at them now. Milan won the competition two years ago, while themselves and Juventus are in the quarter finals this year, with Inter possibly joining them this week. Liverpool did very well against Bayer Leverkusen, but does anyone really think they would've beaten Real Madrid or Barcelona had the draw turned out that way? As players move around, the strengths of the challengers from various countries are going to ebb and flow. Right now, Chelsea can buy anyone they want and have a superb manager to mould their team. Real, despite all the galacticos, have a bit of rebuilding to do. They've never replaced Makele for instance, while Raul has hardly been setting the world alight this season. However, they could easily come back and win the competition next year with the addition of one or two players.

Real may fix a problem or two if they would start Owen.

You're probably right. He has started in Copa del Rey matches, but Real generally rest some of their stars for that competition. They're never going to drop Raul and Ronaldo though, so I think Owen's going to have to be content with being third choice, or else get plane back to Liverpool in the summer (here's hoping!).
