Drudge is among the Worst
The Drudge Report ^ | 05-24-05 | vanity

Drudge is certainly becomming the clutter king of the net.

To avoid being inudated by spyware and popups I'm not only running IE's native popup stopper under XP but I'm also forced to use Panicware's commercial version.

Drudge is also one of the few sites that can defeat Firefox's Adblock extension. It may take 4 tries to eliminate his ever changing URL for his top banner during a single session and then the URLs are different the next day.

If it gets worse, color Mat gone on the "Links' menu.

Go to http://www.everythingisnt.com/hosts.html and install the hosts file (or use their handy installer.) The file blocks the majority of annoying ad hosts. A few websites don't work perfectly afterward - tvtome.com is alas one of them (it won't display the page until the ad is pulled. *sigh*)

And bookmarking this so I don't have to hunt down this very useful website again.

Apparently it is not even tolerated under vanity. Guess today's mods are the sensitive type.

Was hoping someone had developed a shield against Mat's commercial onslaught.

I don't go to Drudge any more, and the popups, etc. are a big reason why. Also, there's very little need for Drudge any more -- with FR, Google News, Instapundit, etc., etc, not to mention getting up-to-the-minute updates via RSS feeds, there isn't much going on that you can't very quickly get a handle on, if you've got the inclination.

He gets an occasional juicy tidbit, but nothing that isn't all over the blogosphere as well as Googleable from elements of the MSM within hours.

Drudge's 15 minutes of fame are just about over.

I like Matt, but he is obviously whoring a penny everywhere he can.

I guess he figures that he should strike while the irons hot, since he doesn't know when his big money days will stop.

I do avoid his site more than I used to because of his pop-ups, but it is his site and he can do whatever he wants.

So far he enjoys the 100k or so a month that gets him.

I was tweaking you a bit, but I've basically stopped going to Drudge. I just got tired of having to fumigate my computer after every visit there....

How to block Drudge popups:

You may want to drill down through the links on that page and read the related threads as well, depending on how interested you are in learning about alternate methods of blocking.

I understand popup's are annoying, but don't you think if you are going to view Drudge's content you should follow his rules. What is Drudge's incentive to provide content if he can't make money off of his site?

You're kidding, right?

Popups send the message that "You will look at me whether you want to or not".

It's enough that I graced your page with my presence. Don't send code that opens unwanted windows or does unwanted things on MY computer.
