Law & Order creator undaunted by cancellation

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Law & Order creator Dick Wolf said he was jolted by NBC's cancellation of the fourth installment of his crime drama franchise, but is looking forward to producing yet another series for the network.

He's also eagerly anticipating a French version of Law & Order: Criminal Intent which, if successful, could trigger a wave of overseas adaptations of his series, Wolf said.

Wolf called the planned French version of Criminal Intent groundbreaking.

The series on broadcaster TF1 is likely to debut in 2006, trade paper Daily Variety reported Monday, noting that U.S. dramas have lagged behind sitcoms and reality shows in overseas adaptation.

"If it bears fruit in France, it's a pump-primer for the rest of the world," Wolf said.

The producer suffered an unusual setback when NBC dumped Law & Order: Trial by Jury, which debuted last spring.

"I was incredibly upset, disappointed, dismayed, any other adjectives that you could care to add," Wolf said.

Trial By Jury should have been called Trial By Boredom.

In the criminal justice system, crimes committed with large suburban vehicles are considered especially heinous...

Law and Order - SUV.

I really liked L&O CI however CI really got weird this year. Anyway I read Vincent D'Onofrio was a BIG John Kerry supporter and was a pain on the set pushing his liberal agenda

Law And Order: Guilty Until Proven Innocent (see the French legal system for why it should be called that).

My husband and I love Law & Order! All of them, and the re-runs, especially the re-runs, and the fun of counting the insults to the political right. and we liked Law and Order: Trial By Jury too.

Yikes! Fred Thompson is now officially unemployed!

Maybe because L&O is like the modern day cowboy movie. Good Guys v Bad Guys...who knows why it's been so popular for so long.
