iPod nano may be Apple's "next Cube"

Apple "may have a clunker" with the iPod nano, according to ZDNet's Dan Farber, who cites a recent report by John Paczkowski of Good Morning Silicon Valley. According to Paczkowski, the iPod nano is "fast becoming Apple's next Cube." Farber and Paczkowski cite a delicate display as the possible Achilles' Heel of the iPod nano. Many reports indicate the screen is, at best, easy to scratch. Other sources -- including a Web site dedicated to the "flawed" iPod nano -- claim the Nano's screen cracks easily. "Jobs, the perfectionist of product design and quality, must be apoplectic," writes Farber. "Replacing the screens or adding a protective shield would be more difficult than dealing with iPod battery issues."

I have an Ipod Mini and I ski with it and work out at the gym with it.

I've said to my wife and others that the Nano looks a bit frail in the ads for what I put my Ipod through. Sounds like I may not have been too far off base.

I had that feeling too when I saw the ads for the Nano as well. My sister won an Ipod Mini for reading a memo all the way through that was posted at work a couple weeks ago. Everyone had to read the memo and sign it when they got done. My sister was the only one who signed the memo. I liked my sister's Ipod Mini, I'm going to get one of my own.

Apparently the nano is so thin that the chips inside it press against the display and can cause it to break easily. Annoying because it's the first iPod I've really wanted.

I clicked on your link and that was more fun than watching an episode of Myth Busters.

The nano sounds sturdy.

I don't know why people might think you could abuse this device more than any other and expect different results. I cringe anytime my iPod tumbles to the floor. Gravity is a powerful force but hasn't hurt my device yet.

I guess if I began sitting on it and tossing out the Saturn window, some other physics might come into play.
