After living hell with Leaf, Gilbride gets Eli reward (NFL-Giants)

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- I used to feel sympathy for Kevin Gilbride. No pro football coach should have to stake a career on Ryan Leaf. But look at it this way: Without Leaf, Gilbride might have missed out on Eli Manning.
So let's try this again. Congratulations, Kevin.
Gilbride is the quarterbacks coach of the New York Giants, and it's on his watch that Manning is developing into one of the best young passers in the NFL. But before Manning there was a young Ryan Leaf, and that experience was unlike anything happening to Gilbride or the Giants today.
Once upon a time Leaf was San Diego's quarterback of the future, and Gilbride was its head coach. But the rookie didn't play the position as much as he battled it, and the results were disastrous. Not only did he sabotage the team; he cost his head coach his job.
And all in one season.
Seven years later Leaf is long gone, and Gilbride is schooling another young passer -- only this time it's the anti-Ryan. Manning is accurate. He is poised. He stays out of trouble. He works hard. He says the right things. He is popular with his coaches. He is popular with his teammates. He is popular with the fans.
And he wins.

Manning (Peyton or Eli) is a man. Leaf is a leaf. Man crushes leaf.
Simple logic.

New York Football Giants Ping List
Ping Ultra Sonic 007 to get on or off this ping list.
Eli's getting noticed, and for good reason. Let's see how he performs against the Boys' this year (need I remind you of the last game of 2004?)

Actually, I have to admit he is impressive. Both the Manning brothers are. But here in San Diego, Eli is.. well, lets just say there are not too many Eli fans out here :)

The Jints-Chargers game showed plenty evidence of that. |^P

I see that some people don't like Eli. Let's just say that many non-Gint fans would love to see
<Chris Berman>the Chahhgahhrs</Chris Berman> win it all, long before ShEli gets a sniff.

Eli is the first Manning I don't like. He is however, a pretty good QB.
Ryna Leaf was the biggest bust of all time, more so than Tony Mandarich. Leaf took down an entire football organization.

I see that some people don't like Eli. I love Eli. If he wasn't such a baby, the Giants, rather than the Steelers, would have the best quarterback from that draft.
GO STEELERS!

I wanted soooo much for the Cowboys to get Manning. He was a sure thing, just like his brother. I know that we've got no chance to get Leinart next year, barring a monumental collapse, so I'm hoping that some great QB falls into our laps. Just look what happened with Rodgers this year.

Actually, I like Eli just fine. It's the team he plays for that I don't like.

This week's game isn't Eli vs Dallas. It's Coughlin vs Parcels. Coughlin is packing, Parcels is a gambler.....he hopes he's lucky.
Giants by 7.

Just got back from Indianapolis...those Colt fans were happy to speak with me about the Manning brothers. They like Eli out there (sure--they like Peyton more).
And, here's hoping that the Jints meet the Bolts soon in a Super Bowl and we learn how to tackle Tomlinson.

I love Eli. If he wasn't such a baby, the Giants, rather than the Steelers, would have the best quarterback from that draft. GO STEELERS! Eli will be better than Ben Roethlisberger. It seems that Roethlisberger doesn't really put up big numbers, he just has a great team around him to help get wins. When some of that team leaves, he won't be as dominant. I went to the Giants/Steelers game last year in East Rutherford, where there were more Steelers fans than Giants fans, and Eli outplayed Ben and the Giants should have won, but horrible calls from the referees were a huge factor in the game. The Giants are developing, and just watch, Eli will be a great QB in the NFL.
