Why wouldn't the landlord want his money?

Probably has someone waiting in the wings to pay double or triple. Housing is scarce here

I would imagine housing is at a premium. If there is already a problem in collecting her first month's rent, though it seems to be a problem that was out of her control, the landlord can evict her and have a new tenent in there in a couple of days. Just considering what's going on down there, I'd bet a lot of landlords are getting ripped off. Not saying that's the case with this lady. Just sounds like a string of bad luck. I feel bad for her.
