ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Ervin Santana allowed one run over 5 2-3 innings, Adam Kennedy hit a tiebreaking two-run triple and the Los Angeles Angels beat the New York Yankees 3-2 Saturday night to hand Randy Johnson his first loss of the season.
The last time Johnson and Santana pitched in the same game was back on Oct. 10, when both worked in relief in the finale of the AL division series. Santana, who was bumped to the bullpen because the Angels went with a four-man rotation in the postseason, pitched 5 1-3 innings for the series-clinching victory in his postseason debut after Bartolo Colon left in the second inning with an injured shoulder.
In the rematch, Santana (1-0) allowed two hits and three walks while striking out one in his season debut. The 23-year-old Dominican right-hander, who gave up a first-inning homer to Derek Jeter, was lifted after walking Jason Giambi on a borderline 3-2 pitch with two out and runners at second and third. The walk came one out after Santana was hit in the leg by a line drive single off the bat of Gary Sheffield.
J.C. Romero retired all four batters he faced, Scot Shields pitched a scoreless eighth and Francisco Rodriguez got three outs for his third save.
Rodriguez, who allowed Hideki Matsui's third homer of the season with one out in the ninth, converted his 21st straight save opportunity to break the club record set by Troy Percival in 2003.
Johnson (1-1) went the distance, throwing 97 pitches over eight innings and allowing seven hits. He struck out eight and walked none.
Kelly Stinnett started behind the plate for the Yankees instead of Jorge Posada, who caught Johnson's 15-2 victory at Oakland in the season opener Monday night.

GO ASTROS!
Usually starts the beginning of August. Did you know grabbing your own throat means "Red Sox" in American sign language?
It was a historic comeback... Your ONLY comeback in 86 years.
Ask the 1986 Angels about that.
Being up three games in a seven-games play-off series and then losing four straight is the record for choking. If you want to discuss choking, discuss the all time record holder, the 2004 Yankees

Do you have the t-shirt?
Fox Sports Radio's JT The Brick is having fits over this. Over 200 million in payroll, and last place! Hey, JT (John Tournour) has a son (5 yrs old, I think) who has never lived to see the Yanks win it all, so he just wants them to
do it again...
I followed part of last night's game via Yahoo Game Tracker
and listened to the end on WCBS (I live nr Boston but of
course nighttime brings in those distance signals). Yankees
lose, theeeeeeee Yankees lose!
He Just Wanted To Go To A Winner
I just heard an interesting stat on WEEI. The Sox won only two games last year when they scored two runs. They've won two such games already this year.
