Maddox Picks Up Ring, Eyes Golf Career (Daydream Believer Alert)

Former Steelers quarterback Tommy Maddox came to Pittsburgh on Tuesday to get his Super Bowl XL ring, but he won't be staying for long.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that Maddox has sold his house and moved to Roanoke, Texas, where he can play golf all year.

Maddox said he wants to make golf a full-time endeavor. He plans to hit the mini-tour circuit, with the hope of eventually qualifying for the Nationwide Tour.

Last month, Maddox came close to making the cut for the EDS Byron Nelson Championship.

Members of the Steelers team that beat Seattle in Super Bowl XL picked up their rings on Sunday, during a private gourmet dinner and concert at Heinz Field.

Maddox did not attend that event, nor did he visit the White House and meet President Bush with his former teammates on Friday.

................ what a joke.

Maddox being a successful pro golfer in the future is funny, but not this funny.

****

Four golfers who like to gamble a little wind up in the same foursome. The pot builds throughout the day until they reach the 18th green, where Charlie has a chance to putt for dough. If he makes his 10-foot putt, he wins $400.

Charlie lines up his putt, but just as he's about to take his stance, a funeral procession begins passing by on the road that runs alongside the 18th hole.

Charlie steps away from his ball, sets down his putter, takes off his hat and places it over his heart, and waits for the funeral procession to completely pass. Once all the cars in the funeral procession have passed, Charlie picks up his putter and begins lining up the putt again.

"Wow," one of his opponents says. "That was the most touching thing I have ever seen. You've got a makeable putt for $200, yet you stopped and paid your respects.

You really are something."

"Well thanks," Charlie says, " but we were married for 25 years."

What a chump. Even the SB Champion Packers met with Xlinton back in 1997 out of respect for the office.

Yes, I believe you are right.

He had a real hard time last year playing in the wind one Sunday, he was terrible, and unfortunately for him, that was about the last time he was able to show his "wares".

I really do wish him well, he's not a bad guy, but being successful in golf these days on the tours is more than tough!

Making fun of a man's choice to go after a dream? Interesting.

I don't believe he likes hanging out with his former team.

I think that's more of a factor than what his political views may or may not be.

The Steelers have gotten their rings? I heard they were going to get them before the home opener. At any rate, if they got them now, is there a picture of their ring? I'm not a Steeler fan but I can appreciate the art and craftsmanship that goes into Super Bowl rings.

Dude, the reason he didn't attend was...not only was he meaningless in the Steelers' SB victory, the few times he was in in the season, he performed so horribly he almost cost the team any CHANCE of getting to the SB (that is why they had to have the most amazing comeback/playoff run in NFL history to get to the SB and win). I think he was embarrassed to even show up. I think he realizes he didn't win a damned thing. I think, however, that if he really had class, he would have declined a ring he didn't earn.

I haven't seen them, but they are supposed to be rather big. To me, all those rings are a little garish. (jmo)

Punter, eh? That's cool.

I was a center fielder for many years .............. dreams, indeed, are important.

Don't burn out over the headline I wrote, at least you made that hole in one. Most people cannot say that. I drilled a 6 iron to four feet on a par three about 30 years ago ...... and three putted for a bogey. Yoi!

;-)
