The infrastructure in, mostly rural, Oconee County is not keeping up with the increased population. Some of the home grown county commissioners have been talking about ways to slow down growth.
For instance, limiting the number of new homes built on and around Lake Keowee. May not stop the flow, but at least slow it down.
People are starting to realize that unchecked growth is bad.
Here's an example of some of the things that the yankees are doing to earn the ire of the locals: Us local yokels have been using Lake Keowee since the Keowee River valley was flooded 40 years ago. Recently, the Johnny-come-lately residents of one of the exclusive gated communities tried to seize a portion of the lake for their own private use because they were tired of us local yokels bass fishing around their docks and just having fun on the water.
This time they were denied their request. But, as their numbers keep increasing.......well, you get the picture.
It's kinda funny, you always hear people from other parts of the country say things like, "I love the South....the people are so friendly." Then they move down here, hide in their gated communities and make attempts to restrict resource usage to the locals.
Just like Ted Kennedy and windmills, I guess. Loves 'em as long as they ain't in his backyard.
What is the striped bass situation in Keowee Lake?
my great grand parents grew up in hendersonville,nc and family is still there. can you imagine what that town is like since it has recently been listed as the nation's top retirement destination? it was bad in the 60's with the migration of new yorkers from florida every summer. now it is a full scale invasion from the northeast and florida.
