It's been a long time coming, but Windows Vista Release Candidate 1 is finally here. As Microsoft starts to collect feedback from a broad spectrum of users in one of its largest test programs ever, the company will soon be in a position to decide whether the product is solid enough to meet announced ship dates of November for enterprise customers and January 2007 for consumers.
Earlier this week, I started using Vista build 5568, a version that Microsoft says should be virtually indistinguishable from the actual RC1 code. Since recent Vista revisions have been focusing on improving performance, compatibility, and stability rather than adding features, there's not a lot to highlight that's truly new. Instead, I've compiled a walkthrough of 100 screen shots recapping what Vista looks like from top to bottom.
The most pressing question for RC1 is whether it shows that Vista is good enough to ship. In my experience so far, it's getting a lot closer, but it's not quite there yet.

I didn't volunteer for the Longhorn testing after what happened to me on the XP beta test.
I may try the RC1 of Vista though - according to their Vista compatibility test program, I have one PC it should work on - It currently has Windows XP-Media and on a 64 bit processor that is a huge waste. And I have it 100% backed up.
Bah - Windows crap, Macintosh crap, Linux crap. I'll never get rid of CP/M.
I will probably upgrade to Vista as soon as lots of people try it and service pack 1 inevitably comes out. However when my PC finally gets too long in the tooth, I'm inclined to try a Mac, as long as people don't assume that I've turned gay or Democrat.
It's really funny that the guy's link to the "visual tour of Vista" at the bottom of the story doesn't work!!!
Yes folks,he's back!
LOL, thanks for that at least!
Windoze outsells Mac for the same reason Budweiser beer outsells Samuel Adams: because of inertia and lack of discrimination among customers. Anyone who thinks Apple makes "junk" must not have tried any of their recent products.
Here is the official support and info site for Vista users.
And what will this do that XP won't do? I think I'll pass.

And what will this do that LINUX won't do? I think I'll pass.

I'm already there on my Linux conversion, but I will run my current 2000 till it drops. Then adios muchacho Gates.
Thanks...I already have been on the MSFT sites. I was hoping there would be a "critical" visual tour...
Your "critical" virtual tour comes after you attempt to install it ;)
Funny. All the Mac heads I know are non-liberals, and several are hard-core conservatives. Anyway, one should buy the best product, and I can't imagine how anyone could actually think Windoze is better than the Unix-based systems like Mac OS X or Linux. My OS X has never crashed and never been infected with a virus. Windoze owes its dominance entirely to historical accident (getting adopted by IBM is the early days of the PC). Most people buy it simply because it is dominant, not because it is better.
Do you still use a Commodor 128. Mine have cp/m built in
