DETROIT - Three years ago, they lost 119 games and were a punchline. You know, the Detroit Tigers ... ha, ha, ha. Funny game, baseball.
The Tigers are the ones laughing loudest now - and dancing their way to the AL championship series.
And the New York Yankees? Well, they're the joke.
Jeremy Bonderman was perfect for five innings and sublime for 8 1-3 in leading Detroit to an 8-3 victory in Game 4 on Saturday to win the AL playoff series and eliminate A-Rod, Jeter and the other high-priced, high-profile Yankees.
Days removed from being swept by Kansas City on the final weekend of the regular season, manager Jim Leyland and his band of wild-card Tigers clawed their way back from an 0-1 deficit to win a series many thought would be severely lopsided.
Those predictions were correct: The Yankees didn't have a chance.

I'm not a Tigers fan, but I've been pulling for them since they've been bad for so long. It was nice to see them defeat the Darth Vader of baseball. The way the team came back out of the locker room to celebrate with the fans was one of the coolest thing I've seen in sports in a while.
Yes! There is a god.
Oct 2000.. . .The Yanks last won a World Series defeating the New York Mets in five games.
Nov. 2000....New York elects Hillary Clinton, an Illinois native who declares herself "A lifelong Yankees fan," to the Senate.
Since then it's been a series of disappointments:
2001: The usually reliable Mariano Rivera gets roughed up in the 9th inning of game 7 and the Yankees lose the World Series to Arizona Diamondbacks.
2002: An 8 run 5th inning finishes the Yankees as they Lose the Division Series to Anaheim Angels in four.
2003: Lost World Series to Florida Marlins in six in which the Marlins become the first opposing team to win the World Series at Yankee Stadium since 1981.
2004: In the biggest choke in sports history, After being up 3-0, the Yankees lose the next four and lose the Championship Series to Red Sox in seven.
2005: Yankees bat 0.194 with runners in scoring position and lose Division Series to Anaheim Angels in five.
2006: Touted by some as having the best offense of all time, the Yankees after winning game 1 in a series that everyone and their mom thought they would sweep, the Yankee bats fall asleep including a stretch where they were shut out for 20 2/3 innings and lose the Division Series to the Detroit Tigers 3-1
Coincidence? I Think not
Hopefully, it doesn't also effect the Mets, but with Pedro & El Duque going down....
LETS GO METS
Go Detroit! A-Rod for MVP!
Don't worry Yankees, George will throw more money at you next year...
It was cool seeing Kenny Rogers climb up there where he could spray the fans down and include them in the celebration. He earned his reputation as a jerk but he's shown a lot of class this season.
"LETS GO METS"
MEGA DITTOS to that! I like the Hillary curse concept, someone should phone that in to Curtis asd Kuby.
Tigers vs. A's! Cue the Bert Campaneris clip!
My friend is/was there and called me about that. That was great. You can say whatever you want about Detroit, we have the most loyal fan base bar none.
Now the Yankees have the curse of the Horse's Ass.
Congrats Tigers. I wish you guys the best of luck against the As.
Of course, we all know who will take it all in the end:
The sports media can be shocked all they want but the Tigers led the major league for the majority of the season, at one point by 9.5 games. Those of us who watched all season knew they could do it.
Detroit - Oakland is the world series.
You American Leaguers think highly of yourselves, don't you.
LETS GO METS!!!
WABC (Curtis & Kuby included) and the NY Post are bought and paid for by Satan's Team, aka the NY Yank-offs.
I am just very impressed with how they are playing.
I think it will be a much better series then Mets- Redbirds.
What a heck of a series! I was nervous about Bonderman, though.
Umm...yeah right. I don't think I'm going out to far on a limb by saying that the winner of the world series will NOT be an NL team. The NLCS (probably Cardinals-Mets) will only determine which team has the right to lose to the AL team.
