Thanks Blam. The author of this piece obviously makes up much of what is written there, because practically all of the "Sea Peoples" info is imaginary, and knows nothing about the cults of ancient Egypt.
To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list. Thanks. Please FREEPMAIL me if you want on or off the

Is this the complete story? Didn't the Sea People wander out of the Black Sea, with metallurgy and chariots? Those were Celts.

There were warning signs before this but right about here...
It appears that, as a result of the conquering of Crete by the aggressive Achaian pirates from the Greek mainland in about 1,400 bce., the Sea Peoples realized that their way of life, religion and their very existence was threatened by the new cult of the cruel sky gods of the Near East. The tribes of the Goddess then bonded closer together and formed the league of the Sea Peoples, the religious leadership of which was centered on the islands of Malta(1) and Gozo(2). It must have been a heart-wrenching decision to organize and arm for war, because most of these traditionally non-aggressive, fun- and life-loving people had rarely been at odds with other people. They had been too busy exploring and settling the empty parts of the earth, which had earlier been inaccessible or made unlivable by the ice and unfavable climate of the last ice age. There was no war mentality among them.
I had to call it B.S. This is feminist fairy-tale stuff. The whole, "Europe was full of peace-loving feminist hippies until those evil Jews and Indo-Europeans imposed their warlike patriarchal sky dieties on them and ruined it for everyone.
And this section only confirms that it's B.S.:
In an astonishing effort of evangelical renewal, Nefertiti and Akhenaten decided to go back to the ancient monotheistic Goddess religion of their early ancestors.
The Aten was not Egypts "ancient monotheistic Goddess". If anything Akhenaten's reign proved that being a hippy is no way to run a land.

What a coincidence, I have never heard of the Sea Peoples before and tonight on History International they have a special on the effects of the Sea Peoples on Egypt, Canaan, Hatti, Mycenae and Minoa. They show that on the island of Crete the people withdrew to the highlands in cliff like areas almost like the Anasazi of North America. The show is is called "Secrets of the Aegean Apocalypse" if you haven't seen it already.

I've long wondered what the DNA tribal peoples studies are revealing along such lines.
Anyone know?
Have a site?

1341 bce., ambassadors of the Sea Peoples, possibly from the British Isles and Ireland, brought special gifts for Pharaoh Akhenaten and his Queen Nefertiti, indicating a good relationship between their countries. The pharaoh and his queen had tried to break the hold of the polytheistic, male-dominated religion of Egypt and had returned to the old ways of the Great Goddess. What in the name of Amun-Ra are they talking about?
That is just so much bunk.
Blam I enjoy speculative history as much as the next person but if this is being taught in the Universities as fact then the professor should be fired.
In no way was Akhenaten promoting any sort of great goddess worship.

Most of this is pure bunk!
Lots of hyperventilating hyperbole presented by the pest control expert Legner.
Truly a waste of bandwith.

(sometimes you have to cut off the limb to save the body)
This article has to be the most amusing one I've seen this year, and it was an election year. ;'D
Tyrrhenoi, again a name which the Egyptians must have given them in captivity. The name translates to... "The wart-covered savages have a burning desire to escape"... The names Thyrrenia, Tyrrhenian Sea and the modern Isle of Tiree must have all come from this name. Serious wart problems are also mentioned in the Ogam writings on standing stones in Ireland.
It's also the root of the Tony Orlando and Dawn song from the 1970s, via the "yellow ribbon" article from Reader's Digest on which that song was based. I mean, it's so obvious -- the Druids were the Goddess-worshipping cult leaders of the Celtic Sea Peoples, and the oak was sacred to the Druids, ergo...
