I found your topic about Kitna while checking to see if this had been posted. Something I vaguely heard on the radio suggested that Millen had been fired, but I found nothing in a news seach, and then this blogger op-ed looked good.

Darn, because my first reaction when reading a thread about the Lions is always to want to comment on Ben Wallace's hair.
The writer is off in concluding that Dallas will be playing for the #2 NFC seed. And look at the bright side, at least the Lions aren't the Texans.
All part of William Clay Ford's master plan to get the top draft pick, so he can get another kicker with it...

Parcells is so condescending and so contemptuous of others when they make mistakes, that it's a sincere joy to watch the Tuna flounder in the pressure cooker of late-game decision-making. Having Bledsoe firing away in the closing seconds against the Seahawks was pure Marty Mornhinweg.

NFL site sez Falcons fired Mora, Cardinals fired Green, Denver cornerback Darrent Williams was gunned down after the Broncos' loss to SF.
I think yesterday's game should give Lions fans some hope for next year.
Kitna is about as good as the Lions have had since Bobby Layne. They played a lot of teams tough, but they collapsed in the fourth quarter. If they can shore up their offensive line and get a decent pass rusher, they have the talent at the skill positions to be a nice team next year.

Matt Millen's wretched 6-year tenure as the Lions' general manager appears to be close to an end. Millen will sit down with owner William Clay Ford after the season, and that meeting is expected to result in Millen finally stepping down/getting fired. The Lions are 23-68 since Millen was hired, 2-9 this year.

Not even the Millen Man March conducted by angry Lions fans last week has been able to coax GM Matt Millen into resigning. League people who know Millen said the only way he'll be leaving his post is if owner William Clay Ford tells him to take a hike. And despite the Lions' pitiful 6-year record (23-72) under the former linebacker and broadcaster, the feeling right now is that Ford won't be telling him to do that. Millen is in the first year of a 5-year contract extension that Ford gave him before the start of the 2005 season. Just goes to show you that Dan Snyder isn't the league's only village idiot.
Now that the postseason sideshow is over, we can get back to what's *really* important -- the Detroit Lions. :')
