Police: Migrant worker has throat slashed

KENNER -- A migrant worker was found murdered in an apartment that he and three others rented from a contractor, police said Saturday.

Officers were summoned to an apartment in the 4200 block of Asher Court around after 8:50 a.m. A woman who lived in the apartment told officers she'd found her boyfriend, a 38-year-old Hispanic man, lying dead in the bathroom. The victim’s throat had been slashed and he’d received multiple stab wounds as well.

According to James Gallagher, a Kenner Police spokesman, the woman said she was outside the apartment when she saw her boyfriend's roommates, two other Hispanic men, flee the apartment on foot.

The victim's name has not been released, pending notification of family members, Gallagher said.

Police apprehended one of the men seen fleeing a short time later, Gallagher said. He was identified as 23-year-old Jose Santos Chamale Casat. He was found in possession of some of the victim's things when he was arrested.

Casat has been charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery, Gallagher said.

Authorities said they were still lokking for the second suspect. He was described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, standing 5'7" with a thin build, short dark hair, clean shaven and last seen wearing a tan short sleeve button down shirt with thin blue vertical stripes. Police believe he goes by the name "Theodore."
