Human liver, partial head mistakenly delivered to Mich. home

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Two packages containing human body parts including a liver and a partial head that were intended for a Traverse City lab instead were delivered to a home.

The body parts, sent from China, were mistakenly dropped off at Franck and Ludivine Larmande's Kent County home by a DHL express driver who believed the bubble-wrapped items were pieces to a table.

``My husband started to unwrap one and said, 'This is strange, it looks like a liver,''' Ludivine Larmande told The Grand Rapids Press. ``He started the second one, but stopped as soon as we saw the ear.

``Something wasn't right. It was scary, and I'm glad I didn't open them.''

The couple called Kent County sheriff's deputies, and detectives determined the body parts which are preserved were for medical research, Lt. Roger Parent said.

Authorities believe 28 more bubble-wrapped human organs and body parts could be dispersed across the country, the newspaper said. Two of five packages headed to the northern Michigan lab broke open, scattering their contents.

``There will definitely be a shock to people if they see these things, but there is no hazard to health,'' Parent said.

The delivery company cooperated with investigators, DHL spokesman Robert Mints said. It also is conducting an investigation to determine whether it should have shipped the body parts and how the packages were dispersed.

``We certainly handle medical specimens, and we're trying to determine if the items shipped were permissible,'' Mints said. ``It's not immediately clear what happened.''

DHL gone bad.

I work in retail and one of my coworkers had to drive across town to our MAIN competitor and pick up a special order item for one of our customers that Fed Ex Ground had dropped off there by mistake.

Fed Ex had faxed to us proof of delivery where one of our receivers had signed for nine packages, but there weren't any purchase order numbers, so it could have been for anything.

SO, one of the managers at my store started calling around to all the other big stores in town, and sure enough, one of them had the item. They agreed to hand it over to the guy who had a big truck and could haul it back to our store.

What a fiasco.

[Off topic: We also have borrowed baling wire for the cardboard crusher from K-Mart when we ran out before. One of our mgrs. used to work there, so when we ran out, he called up his buddy there and the guy lent us one bundle. We paid K-Mart back when ours came in. Ha!]

"Authorities believe 28 more bubble-wrapped human organs and body parts could be dispersed across the country.."

I thought it would be about Republicans getting their asses handed to them.

Which appears to be current mode.

I guess they didn't have fava beans and chianti, or else they would have kept the packages...

The Chinese are missing the market. The boomers need new joints. Hip joints, foot joints. Not ears.

I suppose there's a sweet spot for livers, tho.
