A 2-year-old Texas girl riding her tricycle was attacked and fatally mauled by her family's male pit bull, it was reported Friday.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Department responded to a 911 call Thursday afternoon from a man believed to be the girl's father, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Deputy Michael Ortiz said the girl's injuries were mainly to her face and head but neighbors who witnessed the attack said she also appeared to have been bitten on the throat and buttocks.

Witnesses said the girl's father was trimming weeds nearby when one of the family's pit bulls apparently broke it chains and attacked the child.

Authorities withheld the name of the victim and her father pending a decision on whether to file criminal charges in the case.

...apparently broke it chains ...

If it needed chains for restraint, it should not be alive........

Oh how very, very sad. Why people own pitbulls is a complete mystery to me. Yeah, I know, it's the owner not the breed. Well, keep your breed away from my kids!

Well, for gods sake how much proof do you need? Pit bulls are dangerous. I say that and I own a Bull Mastiff.

Why in the name of all that is good would you keep these dogs when you have small children in your home? If you are single or married without children, fine. You have every right to risk your own hide. But why would you be so stupid as to put a child at risk, even for those who might argue the risk is minimal?

It just doesn't make sense. A pit bull owner trimming weeds, I mean.

Excuse me, I didn't say anything one way or the other.

I simply know that the pit bull gangs, both pro and con, are going to get revved up and super heated.

Stand by and watch!

You answered your own question there.

Because some people are stupid.

Most Pitbull owners work for landscapers so it does make sense.

Crabgrass and dandelions leech the soil of valuable nutrients, which negatively impacts the pot harvest.

Pit bulls are dangerous.

Depends on how they are raised, trained and treated. I have come across many sweet pitbulls.

That's not the only pit bull attack that has happened here in Texas recently. There was another one that I heard on the news this morning. 2 pits were out and, if I heard the story correctly, an officer was dispatched and when she got out of the car the dogs attacked. They took her to the ground and mauled her but she survived. I've been looking for the story in print but can't find it.
