EARTH TO LAMAR:
FRED LOOKING THE PART AIN'T ENOUGH (video)

by Mia T, 4.3.07

Lamar Alexander on Hardball, pushing Fred Thompson for president confirms the obvious: Fred's top asset is his stage presence, followed closely by his presidential and other executive experience... on film.

Fred's geography and ideology seal the deal for Lamar, the former being pure South and the latter, pure enough Right.

The Constitution states the qualifications for President of the United States. Outside of those qualifications it is basically a personal preference.

I don’t trust RINO Rudy and will never vote for him due to his liberal record. I doubt McVain or Romney have a chance to win, but if nominated I would vote for them, same for Hunter, T. Thompson, Tancredo, Gingrich and other conservatives that are trying to gain the nomination.

My personal preference is to see Fred Thompson enter the race for I believe he is the most conservative choice we have who actually has a solid chance to win the election.

Voting for RINO Rudy is selling out your principles just to say that there is a ‘Republican’ POTUS, when in reality all you’ve done is put a liberal in the White House who will be every bit a disaster as HRC over the long run, IMO.

Get a sense of humor... (Didn’t you notice that my tongue was somewhat in cheek?)

and a sense of perspective—Rudy was doing it for charity.

Your mischaracterization aside, if it takes ‘a drag queen’ to defeat the enemy here and abroad, he will get my vote.

Considering his voting record as a Senator, he’s undoubtedly a conservative.

I really don’t care as much about the drag queen getup as I do his liberal record. He is not the answer, he will say whatever it takes to get into office and at that point his liberal roots will have him signing any measure that the dim led congress feeds him and I will not let the Republican party take the fall for that travesty when the exact same outcome will be achieved from your favorite punching bag, HRC, IMO.

It’s a moot point anyways as far as I see it. So many conservatives will be put off by liberal RINO Rudy that any votes gained from the left and center will not be enough to make up for the losses from the right, IMO.

Under that criteria, McCain is a wonderful and solid Conservative as well.

Methinks a different criteria is needed. Voting record litmus tests are useless with a Senator, because they do not vote their conscious....Not ever.

And tell me, what qualifies flip-flop Mitt as a “wonderful and solid Conservative?”

Given his record over the last 30+ years in politics, etc, anyone who has done a shred of homework would know he’s solidly conservative.

Well, what is the right reason? And is it sufficient?

Playing a president, sounding serious, isn’t the same thing as having experience and success running something big and actually having gravitas.

I suspect Fred doesn’t have a clue how to run the country. Or the skills.

I hope they vote conscious, although with patrick Kennedy, that's questionable. I also they vote with their conscience, keeping in mind the voters who put them there.

Well, going for Rudy just gets us another liberal. Fred has the experience and conservative redentials.

I suspect Rudy doesn't have the skills, nor any clue, as to how to run th ountry. The country is far different than NYC. What he did in NYC will NOT work for the country as a whole.

Quotes like this won't play well, either: "Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do and how you do it." -Mayor Giuliani, New York Newsday pg A3 4/20/98 especially when played against this one: "State authority must provide for peace and order, and peace and order in turn must conversely make possible the existence of state authority. Within these two poles all life must now revolve...Ideas of 'freedom,' mostly of a misunderstood nature, inject themselves into the state conceptions of these circles". -Adolph Hitler, Mein Kampf

Als, his own mother doesn't trust him: In an unpublished 1988 interview (quoted by Barrett in Rudy!), Helen Giuliani said of her son: "He only became a Republican after he began to get all these jobs from them. He's definitely not a conservative Republican. He thinks he is, but he isn't."

What conscience?

The root of our problem is entrenched power. We won’t solve our problems unless and until we purge DC of all the professional pols, (which includes Fred), and replace them with citizen politicians, people of the highest caliber, who will serve a term or two and then return to their day jobs... FOREVER—no revolving door allowed.

He's a traditional Conservative.

To be honest, there is no electable candidate possible that meets your criteria as a conservative. The American voting public will not elect a Conservative of that sort, and "that is the name of that tune"....:-)

(Shameless Hollywood TV show quote....)

I wish the so called base would be a bit more pragmatic, but I know this is asking way too much of them. Electability in a National election is going to be very important, as is the electoral college. We must be pragmatic in order to retain the WH. If we are not, we lose it all and another 40 seats to boot.

Oh, I agree with you to a point. Voting records mean quite a lot to me as they are the primary benchmark that helps decide how a person will ‘choose’ when the time comes for significant decisions. Taking a politicians word for anything is the biggest mistake anyone could make. Their record speaks for itself, IMO.

My two primary requirements are:

1) Can they win in the end?

2) Do they closely match my personal preferences as far as ideology is concerned.

After those two criteria have been met, there are other issues to consider, but if they cannot pass those two, I have no interest in supporting them.

Everyone has their own personal ‘qualifications’ that must be met.

I would like to see that goal met as well, but short of a second American civil war I don’t see how we’re going to accomplish such a feat.

Do you really, truly believe that you will physically pass away at some point between 2009 and 2017 if Hillary is elected? I really couldn't imagine going through life that way.

I disagree with that sentiment, but if it is true, then no political party currently represents me or my beliefs and this country is finished as a Republic. Slow bleed with the New Liberal Republican party or go straight to socialism in under a generation with the HRC marxists.

Wonderful choices there.
