LAS VEGAS (AP) - Floyd Mayweather Jr. wanted to give Oscar De La Hoya a beating. He had to settle for just getting a win.

Mayweather won one of boxing's richest fights ever Saturday night by using his superb defensive skills and superior speed to take a 12-round split decision and win the WBC 154-pound title in his first fight at that weight.

What a world. Mayweather’s father thinks De La Hoya won the fight.

Mayweather’s father really, really hates his son. I can understand why.

The local Fox station in LA had a reporter at the fight, He is saying there may be a screwup on the judges cards, this is not over yet.

At one time he trained both of them. He didn’t want to see this fight happen.

Yeah, 9 rounds running, 2 rounds defending himself, 1 round boxing.

De La Hoya took him to school from the 2nd to the 7th.

At this point in time the bottom line for Oscar is this -— he’s 25 Million dollars richer.

Screw the money! I don’t care if they made $5 bucks or $500 Billion.

Being the best used to mean ‘being the best’, not the highest paid.

The problem with all sports today is that the paycheck becomes the issue and the sport is left to die. De La Hoya is now the highest paid boxer alive. He could have made $31M if he won, he could have held on to his title, he could have stripped Mayweather of his.

But the bottom line is the unbelievable paycheck. Who cares who wins, that’s just a small detail.
