Any publicity is good publicity.
Second he admits to his faults and does not lie under oath
Its old news.
Payback from a Giuliani supporter?
Beats me.
Setting the stage for his entry into the presidential race, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., gave a radio interview to be broadcast today with Focus on the Family's James Dobson, in which Gingrich for the first time publicly acknowledged cheating on his first and second wives.
See above. Gingrich just gave the interview.
Great spin work by Tapper. The Clinton kneepad wearers with DNA still dripping down their chins want us to equate what Gingrich did to what Clinton did. The comparison ends at cheating on their wives. (In fairness to Clinton, I certainly understand why he didn’t want to get near Hillary.)
Gingrich did not create a hostile work environment, did not give a troubled intern top secret clearance at the Pentagon, did not hide evidence, did not have thugs intimidate witnesses, did not use troopers and state vehicles for affairs, did not turn in a false affidavit to the court, did not use taxpayer funded attorneys to hide what he did, did not commit perjury, did not suborn perjury, and did not try to deny a lowly employee her day in court. Oh, yeah. He also didn’t rape anyone.
The comparison is specious, foolish, and disingenuous.
We conservatives owe a debt of gratitude to Newt. He fought the Democrats tooth and nail for 15 years, all through the Reagan Presidency. His back bench tactics eventually brought down Speaker Jim Wright and Speaker Tom Foley. Newt along with Dick Armey, crafted the Contract With America based on past policy speeches of Reagan. Newt also was instrumental in the GOP gaining control of the Congress for the first time in 40 years.
As Speaker, Newt stood up to Clinton and pushed through 70% of the CWA. He was also the driving force behind impeaching Clinton. In the end, we conservatives might be looking to Newt for his intellect and creativity on ALL political matters. Leadership is another issue.
Bottom line. Newt beats the crap out of Rooty Toot!
He had addressed it long before then.
Why are we doing the Democrats job for them by eating our own side ???
Conservatives/Republicans just will never learn
I give up. Go away.
No, I think I’ll stay right here...don’t care if you give up.
He’s not getting my vote. Hunter and Thompson, however, are another matter.
Unlike Bubba, Newt gets it. He repents, (at least publicly), of his sin while acknowledging his human weakness. Following Saint Paul's lead Newt acknowledges the internal spiritual warfare of the body against the spirit.
"For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate." (Romans 7: 15)
Though the left will excoriate Newt for doing what they gave Bubba a pass on, I believe that he is the best man for the White House in '09. If he chooses not to run, then Duncan Hunter is the man. I'd love to see this combination as Pres/vice pres.
MegaDittos!
Every one has weaknesses, including President Bush whose stubbornness and pride have all but destroyed his Presidency. But unlike Bubba Clinton, Newt publicly confessed his sins and admitted, (as St. Paul did), that a spiritual war was being waged between his body and his spirit. In other words, he acknowledged the sin and made no excuses for it whatsoever. He took full responsibility for it. If his confession is real, he has turned a human weakness into a profound strength.
I can understand some reluctance when it comes to Newt, but to cross off Newt completely at this point is illogical.
Hunter and Thompson are fine men and would make good presidents. But Newt has done more to advance conservtaism over the last 20-25 years then anyone else but Reagan. At the very least that fact demands Newt be considered a serious option when conservatives talk about who would make a good GOP nominee.
My mistake! I thought it was May 9, 2007.
Sorry about that!
Just forget this “news”!
I will do my penance! I will write “I will read more carefully a thousand times!”
OK? Am I forgiven? With sugar on it? How about booze?
Thanks for well stating what should be obvious.
What Gingrich did was morally wrong.
What Clinton did was morally wrong, illegal, unethical, trashy and a violation of the trust of the American people.
It’s bothered me for 10 years now that people consistently refer to the Lewiniski relationship as an “affair,” presumably short for love affair. It is appalling that this exploitative relationship has been upgraded in the public discussion to a romantic one.
*************
Let me say this: if Gingrich is the Republican nominee, barring anything unforeseen, I would vote for him
