Gingrich Admits to Affair During Clinton Impeachment In Radio Interview, Gingrich Acknowledges Cheating on First and Second Wives
By JAKE TAPPER March 9, 2007
E-mail Print Setting the stage for his entry into the presidential race, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., gave a radio interview to be broadcast today with Focus on the Family's James Dobson, in which Gingrich for the first time publicly acknowledged cheating on his first and second wives.
"There were times when I was praying and when I felt I was doing things that were wrong. But I was still doing them," Gingrich said during the interview. "I look back on those as periods of weakness and periods that I'm not only not proud of, but I would deeply urge my children and grandchildren not to follow in my footsteps."
"I was married very young and had my first daughter when I was very young, in fact at the end of my freshman year in college," he said of his first marriage to Jackie Battley, his former high school geometry teacher. "And after a period of time, about 18 years, things just didn't work out."
Gingrich married his second wife, Marianne Ginther, months after he divorced Battley in 1981. According to Battley, Gingrich discussed divorce terms with her while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery.
"There are things in my own life that I have gotten on my knees and turned to God and prayed about," Gingrich said.

This news is the oldest of the old. That’s why Newt was so mum on Clinton’s affairs.
Didn;t this happen several weeks ago?
Wasn't it our patriotic duty to have an affair during the Clinton Impeachment. After all, JFK did it, FDR did it, Jefferson did it....
Old news Jake Tapper, he admitted this long ago.
Lord I hope not...

Nice. Now go away, Gingrich.
Why post this? You don’t like Newt Gingrich?
Its old news.
This is the best they can do? Didn’t cheat on my wife but I have cheated on my diet so I officially can’t throw chocolate bars.
Why are we talking about this now? This is older than stale doughnuts.
Oh BTW, speaking of affairs, your organization is going to release the Madam's list of numbers soon isn't it? The whole list, unfiltered? Any day now?
I don’t remember him being mum
Newt is such an intelligent guy, I hope he knows he shouldn’t run for President. He could be a very valuable asset in a future Republican administration. The press would go crazy over this idea...Secretary of Treasury. Because that would have to be confirmed by Congress, maybe Chief Economic Advisor to the President.
Setting the stage for his entry into the presidential race..

March 9, 2007 doesn't seem that far away to me.
Did you just come out of hibernation?
We know and it has been posted here many years. Big deal.
Story was around long before Tapper retyped somebody’s else’s work.
Like you said he’s very intelligent, but lacks character. He should stick to writing books and making TV appearances. He doesn’t belong in any administration.
