In the companion movie, “Failsafe,” Walter Mathau played a companion part to Seller’s, a Professor Groeteschele, who was clearly patterned after the author’s friend, the then unknown (outside academic circles) Professor Henry Kissenger.

Meanwhile, Peter Sellers’ reportedly modelled his accent on the photographer Weegee, my FRnamesake.
Weegee was on the set of DR. Strangelove (and you can find his name in the credits). Kubrick had begun as a newspaper photographer and was a fan.

Hi, MindBender, Sleeping Beauty:
In the companion movie, Failsafe, Walter Mathau played a companion part to Sellers, a Professor Groeteschele, who was clearly patterned after the authors friend, the then unknown (outside academic circles) Professor Henry Kissenger.
Mattau's Grotechele always reminded me more of Prof. Edmond Teller than Kissenger.
Jack.
